I have a RME UCX plus a Octamic II, pretty good stuff, but my prism sound Lyra 2 is much better sonically... but just two channels :) better for mastering or small pristine recordings.

RME are fantastic. and would highly recommend.

i've used the fireface UCX & the UFX.
and one of the pcie systems.

but the best interface i've used is the apogee ensemble.

and the worst one i've used being the focusrite rednet system.
them things like to throw a fit every 2 minutes.

Focusrite for me... because of their renowned preamps.
I record professional vocal sessions all the time, aside from my composing for hire...

I've been using a Apogee Duet 2 for some years now and it's great. It's the first interface I ever bought and I didn't realise how good it is until I heard my friends' their interfaces (amongst them some RME's babyfaces). They always told me I was crazy to buy a €600+ interface, they said a €150-200 one would be sufficient for a 'bedroom hobbyist', and look at them now, 2-3 years later, all upgrading their interfaces and I'm still solid and kicking that same great interface and it's still not obsolete, matter of fact it's still one of the best (mac only) interfaces in it's price range. I believe it's got the same AD/DA conversion as their heavyweight world renowned brother(s). I gladly wholeheartedly advice an Apogee interface. Imo their the best sounding from all I heard up until now.

Hope it doesn't look like I'm a fanboy, they just really earned their stripes for me.

    Good luck!

use a multiface for recording ext, gear. main production is on soniccore with fx and synths.
on the road i used alesis, and avid/maudio, best sound was rme and tc
but i think i will switch to audient for mobile use, the id22 is a terrific peace of gear
and consolidates most of my control and io needs in one small package

    @eway
would love to hear a metric halo, rme and prism shootout (always wondered how much difference there is :)

Focusrite (Audient) Control 2802, Focusrite Liquid Saffire 56, M-Audio Profire 2626

I use the Profire 2626 sometimes hooked up with the Liquid Saffire when I need moar mic/line inputs whilst multi-tracking. It was my go to for a little while, It is very decent for the price. Especially so when I was using a PT M-Powered setup at home, That really bloody limited my options! I had a ProjectMix I/O which was alright, The mic pres on the Profire 2626 sound/perform much better than those which are in the ProjectMix I/O. Still when I was using that setup it did fit my needs/wants at that point for a small home setup plus I was not just based at home 90% of the time and wasn't only able to be very much a part time player as I am nowadays (Due to what life's myriad of circumstances can come a person's way!)

If I were starting from the top right now then I would probably go down the route of a system I could add to and subtract from in almost any manner I see fit with a selection of mic pre amps, dedicated ADC and DAC (along with a few other bits and pieces)

I've never had any problems with drivers, mixer/routing software...etc. with Focusrite, M-Audio, Digidesign/Avid, Presonus, MOTU, Line 6, RME, TC Electronic, Behringer (FTW!) off the top of my head. I have had some issues with Mackie, Tascam, Roland, Lexicon, Alesis, Novation off the top of my head (Obviously each bit of gear wasn't my own and eventually the problems got fixed in all cases IIRC. I really like(d) the Mackie ONYX Blackjack fireware Interface thinking back through some of them FWIW)

The driver and utility stuff is always ASIO drivers when using windows from even before XP to 7 (Which is what I'm happy with for now & don't intend on changing from for aslong as possible), On MAC from OS9 to one of the most recent releases of OSX it would of depended on/does depend upon if the person was using a garageband or Logic setup and if they were multi-tracking or not with regards to using the Core Audio or dedicated drivers for whatever interface. Although I am not a MAC person myself, I've used them so often that I can easily get by on OSX now

All the best to everyone & hope everyone has found a winning setup

I hear ya bro, but if you can get over that...
    (From Universal Audio)
Apollo works with Windows 7 64-bit editions using a qualified PCIe-to-FireWire 800 adaptor. Because of widespread variance between PC manufacturers, the built-in FireWire ports on Windows computers are not supported.

AS a RME Fireface 800 user i find my Steinberg MR816CSX has the edge, both used only at home but great for home use-age.

I have a Delta 1010 as well but that's used on a MP3 only box at home.

I have a focusrite Shappire pro 40 firewire. I was going to get a RME but I decided the foucusrite was a better option for me. It has been great.
3 ms or less latancy and sound quality it really good. I used to have a i88x never again will I buy Yamaha gear for DAW. They are good but drivers support for new OS is not there. They want to contantly sell you new hardware. Not my game when you pay big money for a audio interphase.

I use PreSonus AudioBox1818VSL. It doubles as a live mixer. Rack mount --road/gig worthy. I would love to have Universal Audio Apollo stuff. Almost no latency.

Are these interfaces mentioned comparable with the ASIO4ALL that is used in FL Studio or is it something completely different? If so comparable, how much of a improvement would it be to the ASIO4ALL in FL Studio?

Asio4all actually is an driver that sits on top of the windows kernel, all interfaces in this topic come with dedicated asio drivers (an asio4all version optimized for that particular interface)

RME Fireface 800 w/ (x2) LUCID 88192 AD/DA converters clocked with BLA Microclock mkii. Monitoring w/ DM Dbox :)

You can't beat RME drivers, and you can't beat TOTALMIX as a digital patchbay when mixing.
