mp3's would be easier for size though and just to play around with sounds/mixes they don't need to be top quality...how about signing up at kompoz.com it makes it easier to collaborate in this way?

sure, but to just share some stems he can do that without creating an account, just using his soundcloud and enabling downloads. I'll check that Kompoz.com site out. I have used splice before, but using Studio one more now and that is more oriented towards ableton i believe, haven't been there in a while so not sure. but it's up to Jesus how he wants to do it.

Yeah totally agree would be better possibly to come up with the lyrics etc then you can fit the music structure around it etc possibly easier that way and you can emphasize the vocal sections more that you wish to highlight etc.

    Sounds good though again

First I'll say.. it's truly to your discretion. Does it sound how you want it to sound at this point? Many things can be done.. too many to talk about. One thing you can do that will better balance your mix at this point is lower the volume of the kick and hi-hat at least 1-2dB. Put an EQ on the kick using a low pass/high cut filter. This will give the kick depth and add some motion to the mix at the same time. Start filtering out the high frequency until you hear a nice dynamic relationship (up-down, back-forth movement between the kick and snare). After that you will have more room to crank the mix up as a whole. If you crank it back up to the same RMS level as this original mix it will already have a more realistic environment, sound more alive, and some movement/groove/feeling.

I believe the first and most crucial thing to develop is a keen sense to set a musical stage. Volume= front to back. Pan= left to right. EQ= position low to high. All tracks should sound together even when they are floating freely. Those who are always eager to go straight for the compressors/limiters/reverbs in attempt to "force" things together in the mix end up with one thing.. hyper, constrained, harsh, nauseating music to listen to.

Pan is the fist thing for me and EQ the second also the volume of the kick is 0db and for me it songs better around -2 or -3 db

I do hip hop. I would say add some swing to the drums. You don't want to have anything 100 quantization. Hip hop is about feel. If the drums sound to predictable, the listener may lose attention. Pretty decent for a first hip hop track i'd say. Keep it up!

thx i'm not hip hop guy but i think hip hop is about feeling and i know my hip hop song is not perfect so i made a post just to see if i have some ideas to make it better.

  17. Hip Hop is about the message, the story. Your beat is great but within the genre it needs to support the lyrical content of the piece. They must go hand in hand so as the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. Lyrics need be next in order for you move ahead. Find collaboration or write them yourself, but I feel this is your way to completion and contentment. Let the beat and words marry, have children and be a happy family forever and ever and ever. This is MC2cent signing out.

Jesus Rivera Thanks for sharing this once again. Had a play with this last night, my thoughts. The snare is way to staccato, need to tone it down, Like pronto said. Leave it out of the intro, maybe some hats instead or filtered. Love the chords and the melody, but it needs to be balanced out. the melody overpowers the chords a bit and they are really nice. I would push the melody a little back in the mix to better sit with the piano. The horns and that little synth need to be separated out maybe panned opposite each other, or the synth and the melody panned opposite each other. this is a really nice track as are your other works on soundcloud. the final arbitrator is you. If your happy with them that is what matters. these tracks have a really nice vibe to them. Keep up the good work and post more.
