Main problem is not security, updates and such.
Problem is the same than with Apple OSX : you need AT LEAST Windows 7 to install some softwares.
    Last OS > last software
The usual Apple fanboy sentence : "But you can still run old software on your old OS" is totally bullsh*t.
I can run an Amiga or Atari ST, too.
Here we have the same sentence, on the Windows side. Windows users are not used to this, because XP is the first OS version ever becoming so old : 12 years of service
You will spend more time finding shortcomings than converting your old XP install with VMware Converter and installing a new OS.
Now you can loose your time if you really want to, that's fine to me :mates:

There is the final question : are you ready to run only old softs on your old OS ?
On my side, it is a big NO !
I want the last software, because it is like this in the digital world. If i didn't, i would run hardware only.

A little off-topic-but since a lot of people are viewing this post let me remind u that besides sibelius ,no other avid product is compatible with windows 10 yet (now i expect 200 people replying that avid sucks and that nobody uses avid products here anyway bacause the other softwares are so great)

As I already said, I'm 100% compatible with my old&new software and hardware, I got whole my software end of studio on cloud and ready to go, few installations and that's it, but again, that's me and guess I'm not only one there.

But I understand you completely, if I were into newest stuff and willing to pay all those bucks on long run for that goodies, I would shell out for OS that would run all of it on long run, but I'm mostly on freebies and covered on XP, so no real need for me personally, better spend that extra money on something else.

Anyways, except Native Instruments, who else dropped support for XP?

I really don't know, was looking around my potential&favorite devs&plugs, it seems majority of them support XP :dunno:

Whatever tricks you apply, one application won't get to use more than 2GB under XP 32bit. You can always start the app standalone and control it via Midi (losing total recall capability), or, in case of Kontakt, use the memory server to use another maybe 1Gb of remaining RAM, or use a RAMdisk hack to create a ramdrive for all the memory above 4GB which you could then use as a cache drive for 1000s of small Kontakt samples, but hey, what a hassle compared to just using a 64bit OS.

Almost everyone on the planet. Most devs simply stopped providing any help for XP.
It will faster to say who STILL support XP.
Adobe dropped it. Waves dropped it. And i don't have time to tell every devs on the planet who done it...
Now tell me, WHO are the main devs still updating their products in 2015 with XP ?
    List will be short...

PS : i didn't told anyone to install W10. It is the total opposite :wink:I'm on 7 and happy.

How to select both "Yes" and "I do"?

OK, well, I'm still using XP, but no longer for audio.

You named two, here's mine two, U-He and DMG Audio, two more Acon Digital and FabFilter, also Serum, Spire, Sylenth, Tone2, just to name few more wide used toppers, but I don't have time to go around and check developers/products I have no slight interest at, but as I see it majority who were supporting XP before is supporting it today with that few exceptions.

I didn't meant to start OS war or anything, but I see this "everyone dropped XP" as highly bold statement/myth, because plenty cool ones are still supporting it, I know Steinberg is out, probably Ableton too, but still, that's not everyone...

I'm not fanboy-ing here, just another 3rd world dirt poor guy that want to do the right thing and buy legally stuff he uses, so things like Waves or Cubase are out of my reach anyways, but others that aren't are still there even on XP that is in my reach, really, quite honestly, I'm surprised how well XP is still supported

Ableton Live Version 8 still runs on XP and as for steinberg, they could NEVER improve on Hypersonic 2 and that obviously runs on XP too.

XP is still the best O/S Microsoft have created, at least for me, and I still run my laptop on it (If I'm DJ ing)

So settling with any crude thought of a developer to negatively improve the software is all right with you? No matter the age or era, common sense should be always present.
One example of such behaviour is Goldwave Inc.
