Is anyone using a DAW for VSTi usage in a live performance? If so, what are you using, and how is it working for you.

I have tried using VST hosts, but many of them do not have the ability to do a one touch setups for songs in a set. I really liked Live Professor, but it has a tendency to weird out occasionally, and Cantabile is very unstable for me. Mixcraft 7 has been very stable and loads quickly, but loading sets is something I haven't been able to do on it. I have tried using many other DAWs with no avail. I tried Ableton Live, but had trouble loading several of my critical VSTi's. I will revisit it though.

Any time I played / performed live, was with Ableton Live. However, I never used any 3rd party plugins. I also felt at the time which goes back to when Live 5 was their current version. Live was only stable then using their own Instruments and effects.

For Windows platform, Cantabile 2 (Solo or Performer edition) is great (@westwinch: very stable for me).

Perhaps Tracktion instead? of course, Traktor (by Native Instruments) is a DJ software, not a DAW anyway.

PreSonus Audiobox. This interface runs the show, but I can record and run live sound at the same time(while playing drums and singing, you try it:drummer:) In theory I suppose I could run inputs through the mixer section pf the DAW live if I needed it for something. Comes with VS artist, but I use Audition. My friend runs his with a touch screen. That's my next step. Love it. "FatChannel" gives unheard of control of every input coming in. Gates (very handy live) comp, para EQ on every channel or bus if you need it. Sometimes I play along to a loop or rhythm track. access to all audio in PC to play on breaks. Have it a flight rack case with CreationStation PC, dbx DriveRack, and an ART MPA II tube/dig pre-amp. here's setup without the DriveRack .

Ableton really does seem to be the go.
But i wonder has anyone used reaper live?
It seems to do moist things pretty well with plenty of options. maybe give it a go.

I have been working with Forte for several hours. Starting to make progress with it, but it has crashed on me 4 times now. I think if I used nothing but Kontakt in it, it would be fine. Ableton would be great, but is soooo picky about outside VSTs. I bought reaper over a year ago just so I could write on the road with laptop. I really haven't tried it yet for VST setups. All I am really trying to do is use a VST host to run through a set list on stage with a different preset or VST change for each individual song. I am not using loops. I am actually playing keyboards(apparently a dying art). I have been told by several keyboardists that a DAW is the stable way to go. I may have to go back to Cubase to make this happen.

What VST do you want to run that Live doesn't like? I ask because I never ran into this issue although I use Live daily.
