In EDM Impacts are basically layered sounds (kick + cymbal or any other random sound/sounds) run through a reverb, used as transition from one section to another (like introducing a breakdown or break after an intensive/crowded part). You can learn to make your own by just layering stuff and run it through a reverb.

In movie sound design it's more organic recordings of real drums/percussion, steel/metals, scrapyard found sounds, etc.

I recommend you to download a basic sample pack of Vengeance (just an example) for educational purposes, it will come with a lot of different kinds of audio and you will be able to listen to some impacts, falls, bass drops, risers, reverses, fills, etc.

And don't worry, you will learn the names of each kind of sound used in a track naturally. ;)
