Fascinating. A new business model for the 21st Century: got it for rent

 

Wow. This guy realy know how to use the Teleprompter. After 3 min i get bored. For 21 Century over 9 min... is too much.

 

I get the irony here, but nah, If I like the Custom Series EQ I might bite the bullet and buy it. I got four months to save up, or not. Anyhow, it's a good thing to get to try stuff I'll never buy like the tape emulation. Satin is my go-to plug-in for that.

 

This might be a great deal for some people, but I would rather pay 300 bucks for a really good plugin and own it for the rest of my life than renting a bunch of plugins where I might not even need some of them.
This is at least for me the case as I'm not the kind of person who uses all plugins from a certain company, but rather like mixing it up a bit :dancing:
For hardcore Slate Digital enthusiasts on the other hand this might be worth a try.

The guy in the video was talking about Waves... I own Waves stuff and I was really disappointed when I read about their "Update" plan (update of their wallets, of course) but... IMHO Slate stuff are good for who is wise enough (not me...so envy is biting my flesh) to know how to use it the right way. Good for you.

I just subscribed monthly for $20 and got a free ilok2 with it! That's pretty badass.

A couple of their plugs have really impressed me in the past. I've got 16 years of professional mixing/mastering experience and have pretty much used everything that exists in the software domain at one point or another, including UAD.

Really looking forward to checking out their entire line for a few months or so... If I learn I that I cannot live without any particular plugins, I'll just cancel my subscription, and buy whatever I need. Smart model, Slate...

i don't understand all the hatred. i've seen many people comment that they love these plug-ins. personally, i never felt like i could afford them. but if i was working on a special project, and i could rent all of the slate plugins for $20, man i think i might be willing to do that. to be able to use the plugins that many people in the industry agree are the best for a month for only $20 instead of buying them all. . . not a bad deal at all.

 

I own a few and signed up for the master mix / fx plan. I got a receipt that said 4 months free but my ilok said expires september 5. It's a solid effort just wish they'd sort some things out like that prior to launch . I think it's extremely fair to get 4 free months if you own any Slate Plugs though, didn't even ask for credit card. Also don't have to be signed into gobbler or online to use it , my only complaint is i didn't get the 4 free months I got one. If I have this choice with others I think its a great option especially if you want to test things out but you don't feel left out when new stuff pops up. I gotta give him props.

 

Does anybody have the installer one prior to this new update?
I just installed the new one for demo, but it seems that I need a new license.
I want old installer back. I don't wanna pay them $20 forever.
If any of you have an old installer, please provide... I'm sure there would be lots of people like me.
