how many jobs have been lost because of all that technology we use today...

I like technology too, but when I think about, the price has been really high :(

i still rather use a real digital camera for serious photography.. a crappy phone cam just does not cut it...

in fact I use all of those things above.. paper, land line for alarm system, pocket calculator sometimes , students still need the

TI-83 etc..., just not cassettes or mechanical alarm clocks, i think many people still have a clock radio of some kind..

may as well have back ups for when your phone falls in the toilet or gets jacked...

  5. Hey Rhodes, one man synth orchestras have cost many brass, woodwind, percussion and string musicians a living wage also. The current paradigm excludes the many for the one. Just look where that center of attention in the cartoon has helped transport us; The Selfie! Every teenage girl is now a one man wrecking ball. Smile for the camera:woot:

    Hey superliq

never heard about the out of work orchestral musicians due to sample packs and vsts... do you have any source for that? for now I just have to laugh...

but willing to read about it if you have further info... serious and huge productions probably still want real instruments and players

I personally take comfort in the fact that the self obsessed selfie takers are also falling off cliffs in the process sometimes...

As I still use these other things today (even analog/film cameras), I find the bad jpeg compression more funny than the (enlarged) image.

Ok, the only item of the circle in the picture I no longer use is the alarm clock. Yes and the tape, but that's another story :)

One thing missing from the illustration: the human brain. Or survival skills. Or a paper map. Or a sense of direction. Or conversational skills.

I was personally weighing the benefits/perils of technological progress the other day. I enjoyed doing photography on film, but hated how expensive it was – but still mourn the loss of Kodak color negative film and Fuji slide film (Astia being my favorite). Now that digital cameras have higher res and such, great – though I really miss film's exposure latitude and mid-tone continuity. Spherical panoramas and virtual tours of places were not possible until digital photography - such as this one of EMI Abbey Road Studios and this one of CBGB. (Frickin' cool.) Shooting good-looking high-res video with relatively inexpensive cameras, or even "phones," is also welcome in my world. I also don't miss carrying 10 lbs. (or more) of camera and accessories when shooting just for pleasure.

As for how many musicians' jobs have been negatively affected by the proliferation of sample libraries, it's likely on the same scale as the pro cinematographers who've lost jobs to nephytes with DSLRs, the shooting budgets too low for shooting on film, the Union employees for whom the budget was too low to hire so the production was shot on non-Union turf, the lower budgetary amount left over for scoring and licensing, and so on. Over the past decade (or longer), digital technology has devalued the labor and talent of everyone associated with the film industry (except, perhaps, CGI artists). A $100,000 licensing fee for a song is now a $10,000. And so on, across the board.

The old school gangsters, soon might cover the role of the zombies from the films.
It could be cool to have a zombie alarm clock. I think not so far the mobile will join the gang when the implants will be the norm.
