    Hi guys,

All the sudden live is not loading anything. I have a lot of my samples and library's on an external but that is plugged in and it still can not locate anything. When I try to open a project with Kontakt drum lab it says files missing and shows the path that is broken. The shitty part is that that path is correct all I have to do is say locate file and then click that same folder and it loads. This is the same with all my samples and everything. This is really annoying and super depressing. If anyone can help me in anyway I will be forever greatful.....

    Sincerely,

    A really frustrated Live user.....

When you have open your set and locate all of your samples, try to do "Files" -> "Collect all and save".

    I found out what happened...

All my samples and what not are saved to an external hardrive. I usually use this hardrive for my laptop but used it on my desktop the other day. In doing this, the desktop must have changed my drive letter to G (vs the original S). I fount this out by trying to load a previously saved kontakt midi sequence and it gave me a file path error. I saw the file path said S:/samplelibrary/kontakt so then I opened up My Computer and saw that the external hardrive was now assigned the letter G:. From there all I had to do was change the disk letter and I was golden. If you are unsure of how to change our disk letter this link will help you

As @OhmStudyo stated....It is always best to save your projects as collect and save vs the traditional "save as." Save and collect takes all the samples from all the folders you drew them from to create the project and saves them in your project folder so that the next time you open a project live is only drawing the samples from the project folder and not from all the different sample locations. This will help avoid errors in loading due to renaming, relocation or damage to the file.

I sincerely hope that this information will help someone save time and recover their work. So many people here and all over the web have been so helpful to me. Message me or reply if you need any help with this and I will be glad to help. Thanks guys.

Since you figured out your problem, maybe I can offer some unsolicited workflow advice.

I see an automation point for Mixer>Track Volume on the highlighted track. I've always found that to be an inconvenience. If you need to adjust the overall volume of the track later on (automation and all), you either have to readjust your automation point or open a plugin window and adjust the volume from there. It's not a huge waste of time but it is a nuisance.

I suggest dropping a utility on the track and automating that. You'll thank yourself for it later.

doing the same, the utility is fast and when you are not satisfied with the volume, just delete the utility and drag in a new one or just delete the automation, i do both lol.

Yes! Deleting the Utility itself is faster than deleting the automation envelope. Especially if you haven't created a separate lane for it. Every DAW should have a designated Utility device like this, especially for automation purposes. I love the brilliant simplicity of Ableton's workflow features.
