Softube drops the requirement for a USB iLok key for all its products, making a USB iLok key optional.

All Softube plug-ins can now be used with iLok's machine-based licenses. This license type authorizes the computer itself, making the USB iLok key optional.

Each license will contain two separate authorizations, meaning that the user can either authorize one computer and keep one authorization as backup, authorize two different computers or authorize one computer and one USB iLok key.

If wanted, users can still use a USB hardware iLok for easy portability of their licenses.

    Current Softube license owners
If you already own Softube licenses and wish to move them from your USB iLok key and instead authorize your computer, please follow these steps:

Launch the iLok License Manager application on your computer.
In the lower left field, select the USB iLok key with the Softube licenses on it.
Find the Softube products in the right field and drag/drop them onto the computer icon in the left field.
You will be prompted to confirm this is indeed what you would like to do—click OK. Done! You can now use your Softube products on the authorized computer without having the USB iLok key connected.

See, Now the industry is learning that dongles suck dongs!

ILoks don't suck that bad. Most of the very best softwares require it. The likelihood of a HDD going belly up is much greater than a dongle getting fried. For $30 /year, you are protected from permanently losing your licenses while hosted on a dongle. I actually like iLok. What I detest is nasty C/R protection. * grumble.

This is the biggest gimmick PACE and the plugin industry is able to pull on people and worst it seems that most are eating it as something extraordinaire!
PACE and Plugins developers: "Oh! you see NO MORE iLok, that's magical right? BUT listen, you need to use our iLok's machine-based"...
Customer: Great! OMG awesome!!! and after a minute of real thinking goes "wait, what?"
    Exactly, still iLok.
Pace have been able to make people do the transition from the key to their machine as if it is a whole new system and blah blah blah.
Man, I have iLok on both the key and my machine. Guess what? Not a goddamn difference. They just make it a virtual dongle, plain and simple.
It is the same protection file from the key that is deposited on your machine.

The only thing I love about this change though, I'm waiting to see the die-hard PACE/iLok critics find another reason not to buy an iLok protected soft. Well, wasn't the dongle the problem? No dongle now! Just enter your validation key of the soft you bought and you are good to go

Yea i hate ilok but it's still better then having to have a usb dongle right? My mbp only has 2 usb ports and I'm using a 7 port usb hub just to be able to use externals along with my Audio Interface (on it's own usb port) and a midi keyboard so having that spare usb port would make a world of difference for me if i ever bought something that required ilok (Which i doubt)

You never had your license permanently revoked without any hope of getting it back in spite of providing all the invoices and everything.

No, the dongle wasn't the whole problem. PACE was. You should read some thousand-mile long GS threads and see what the whole picture was.

What's the problem? iZotope act the same way (usb dongle is optional); Native Instrument use a license manager just like Waves.
I own reFx Nexus2 and I have to use an eLicenser dongle. So... if you don't want it don't buy it. :grooves:

Protection wrappers (being USB check (serial port before USB...because USB is serial)) or hard drive/hardware configuration are the problem.
They are low level system drivers, like antivirus/firewall and such.
So when they get wako, they crash the whole system like antivirus/firewall.

    And it happens...or not.
But ppl who don't install protection softwares to avoid system instability, but install crappy wrappers drivers probably missed something

Wrappers are no more/no less evil than antivirus/firewall low level drivers.

Its moreso not having to have usb keys choking up the ports needlessly. Even though you still need ilok license and software, its better than having it fill up your ports for no reason. Always carrying that damn thing around. Obnoxious.

I love iLok as well as I love SyncroSoft!!!!!!!!........... that kind of protection helps me perfectly to deside exactly what software I want to use and what I dont want to use!

Dongles (I have loads of them!) are relics from the stoneage - period!

    Thats all *yes*

There are two types of people who would not buy an iLok soft:
    * The ones who already bought a soft protected by iLok and end up having (an unfortunate and somewhat avoidable) nightmare ride with the dongle -- THESE ARE THE PEOPLE YOU ARE REFERRING TO.
    * The ones who never bought one because they can't afford, or in their opinion feel it is too expensive (or the ones who ridiculously think everything should be FREE!) and hate the fact that they probably will never be able to have a cough, cough... working crack version (or at the least, wait an eternity before the protection is defeated.) -- THESE ARE THE PEOPLE I WAS REFERRING TO.

So, I was being sarcastic in a way, because most likely the change in how the iLok is applied now without the dongle will not change the fact that these folks I was referring to will still be on the waiting line for a crack version of whichever soft they hope to get for free.
