Even though you have a child, and call it your Child, dont Make you a Father, it Takes a Real man to raise and Provide for your children. Thanks to all the Real Dads out there doing the right thing... Enjoy this wonderful day with your Kids...

This day used to bring me joy but now just leaves me feeling hollow when I know that it's approaching.



I am proud to have been raised by such a wonderful father. He was loved by anyone that got a chance to know him and spread laughter everywhere he went. He raised me right and I can say without a shadow of a doubt that I'm a better man because I had him for a dad. We miss you today and every day.​

Your time will come and the role will be reversed when you can pass on your joys and lessons learned to your own children and make them proud to have someone special in their life, to look up to and to guide them through all times good and bad. It's by no means easy but you'll manage and succeed and someday look forward to days like today and turn your negative feelings into positive ones.​

 

I feel the same way Bro. I lost my father 2 yrs ago and now and Fathers Day just isnt the same for me anymore but my kids always make me feel better knowing that they appreciate me. He's still there, with you.

Came back from the hospital this afternoon and the first free minute I got ... AS, of course! And than this topic ...
My third son was born this morning (not planed, lol), feeling beyond description (and should quickly go to bed, as long as I can).

I'm deeply sorry to hear that, Catalyst. That hole in the heart never goes away when you lose your beloved Father and/or Mother. That gives me the chills just thinking about it. But Happy Father's day to your Father, even though he's not here on earth anymore. *yes*

It doesn't matter how strong you are. The thought that Father's Day is here but your Father is no longer here is always a painful feeling.

Very nice sentiments expressed by one and all! As a "real" father of five, I am keenly aware of the awesome responsibilities. Hopefully, the overall message that you guys have conveyed, will resonate with those fellows either planning to be fathers or may have Fatherhood thrust upon them (unexpectedly). It won't be an easy road, but a road that must be traveled.

Congrats Bob...as a father of one & grandfather to three, there just ain't nothin' like it! Family is at the root of what it's all about!

For your own sake maybe make more of an effort to stay in touch, trust me you never want to have regrets after it's too late, just sayin'!

 

Cat, happy father's day to your dad. He obviously did a great job. I wish you not to be sad. You have the memory of a great dad and that is priceless; you are very lucky. My dad is alive and although I love him (because he is my dad) he loves me in his own weird way, and it gets very hard for me.

The best teaching I got from him is to be the best dad I can be for my kids; not like him. To forget of what is just good for me and not be selfish; not like him. To not beat my kids up until I get tired; not like him. I've promised myself that I won't deprive my kids of the love I have for them for other stupid selfish reasons, like my old man has.

Had to wait until the day after, so I wouldn't spoil the party, but:

As you're fist-bumping one another about your Pops, feel extra thankful that he was someone to give gratitude, to cherish, and/or to miss. Mine had done absolutely nothing to prepare me for life. He seemed to refuse to help me to learn about how to get along in the world. He couldn't be bothered to help me with my math or science homework, even though he himself was a scientist. He did teach me how to play baseball, but mainly because he had been good at it and enjoyed it when he was a kid. He also left me more and more alone at home with the psycho bitch he had married (don't even get me started about mothers), as though it were better I than he who would get dragged into her shit-pile of terror and humiliation. Not only this, but he undermined my gifts - such as musical talent and acumen - and negated (by ignoring) everything good about me. Never did my father give me the impression that he had anything to pass along to me; never did he contribute any information or guidance toward my success in life. He did his best to thwart my chances of success and survival. He went about this passive-aggressively, under the guise of a "nice guy" - frickin' psychopath, he was. So underhanded, and so double-binding; its effects were worse than if he'd beat the shit outa me or just abanndoned the family altogether.

I've devoted my entire life to undoing the effects of my family's consummate negativity, reversing the damage – and to raising myself retroactively, always two to three decades behind, in some ways, as a result. I wish that I could begin to relate to others' sentiments about their mothers and fathers – of a mother's nurturance and a father's guidance – but it was exactly the opposite with those assholes, my (former) parents. I don't even know nor care if they're alive or dead now; I consider it to be none of my business.

I have Pops to thank for what I am today, though by now it's more a matter of my un-doing than of his doing.
