Pianist and conductor Daniel Barenboim has unveiled a new type of piano, which he says is "radically different" to the standard concert grand. It is built with straight, parallel strings, promising a superior sound to a regular piano, in which the strings are installed diagonally. Barenboim launched the instrument at London's Royal Festival Hall, in advance of his Schubert recital series. He intends to perform the entire series on the new piano.

This guy knows something about piano...
And he knows differents approaches to composers of differents musical periods, so, let's see what happens when this piano comes to light, (and the Kontakt version of it).

I think there's a weird ringing frequency in the sound (maybe it's because the attack is clearer/more pronounced). But, yeah, it sounds way cleaner (the harmonics and the build-up in the tail). (It's more transparent and individualized as he put it)

Spitfire, what are you doing?? Hopefully they will be on it, after the Zimmer one. :dunno:

I wonder why it is labelled "new" when the video and the description clearly explain it is just the old way to build pianos. The result of this will simply be a different sound and a more pronounced and different timbre across the keyboard in the bass, middle and treble section. It is an old idea realized with modern equipment.

Oh, how we all are waiting to try this via Kontakt in our respective DAWs!
I would like to hear this baby in person. It's interesting how long major changes take to be made. Out of respect and/or fear, many would abstain from changing the Piano. I don't mind that they don't. She is magic.
