On Win7 64 when starting S1v3 message says:

S1 application requires Windows 7 SP1 with Platform Update or later.

Does anybody know if installing this Platform Update from Microsoft will msrew up a pirated Windows 7...?

 

depends on the pirated version of windows, are you able to update windows? (to SP1 ??)

KB2670838 is one of the first updates made by windows on win 7 sp1; no problem on (well) pirated versions (daz....) able to authorize updates.
No "msrew up" at all.
Strange you don't have already installed this update. The only one that must be avoided is KB971033

 

The only thing which could get screwed would be your activation and for that you can search for
KMSnano in the net.

It will reactivate your Win7 - no matter which version you are running.
It also works for non-volume-licensed windows installations like Win7 Home Premium or Ultimate.

I personally prefer untouched windows installations with no extra modifications or updates
because there are alot of tools to download and install all extra updates at once later
and the activation is also no problem with tools like the one i named above.

If you want a little tip for your next windows installation: try Windows (7, 8 or 10) Embedded Enterprise.
It works best for music and graphics production systems since it doesn't include all that extra
windows stuff and it has the best performance you can get. It contains all administrative tools like
Pro, Ultimate and Enterprise but when it comes to entertainment and colorful blinky stuff - there is nothing.
Windows 8.1 Embedded for example runs here on a very old machine with only 512MB RAM, a 64MB Graphics chip
and a 1,8 GHz single core processor like a charm. Yes, you have that metro interface but there are no
preinstalled apps and extras.
The only thing you have to do extra is: you have to install the drivers you need on your own because
windows embedded doesn't have included as much drivers as the retail versions have but that shouldn't be a problem.

Oh and one last thing: You can't buy Windows Embedded as private customer - means you have
to run an activator/crack if you want to use it. If Microsoft would think about releasing
such minimalistic windows version for non-company-customers like you and me, I would buy that one for sure.

For the first time in a long time I'm actually running a legit version of Windows 8. The bs KMS activation methods for 8 are a pain and 10 will be even more a pain to activate. They actually even have a state of the art facility to deal with piracy. Apparently they only didn't care about it when it made them famous. Fucking hate Microsoft.

 

Not used windows in a while but yeah un tick this and the rest is all good.

 

i get this when trying to install the platform update:
"installer encountered an error 0x8007042 the service cannot be started"
and this is just from trying to install the demo version from the presonus site..
anybody got any ideas if i can fix this?
