I'm thinking about upgrading my dual-core for a lower clocked quad....but I'm reluctant to do so.

Cool...but the i5 is about 3.+ ghz right?

I wanted to run an i5-2500T which is 2.3 my current Core2Duo is 3.16ghz.

That's a pretty big dropoiff in raw speed. I wasn't sure how FL would exactly benefit.

    I have a Core 2 Quad with 2,33 GHz, but I'm running Cubase 5.1 and it's fine. ;)

i run fl studio in an amd turion x2 1.8Ghz (windows xp sp3) with multiple instances of massive@ultra quality, and have no problems or overflows... its weird cause in my other computer, intel core duo e8400 @3.0GHz (win7 ultimate), cant run the same project file (flp) with the same config without problems... i guess theres a diference with the os?

That's another thing.....I was thinking of switching to Win 7 also. I have 16gb of RAM and it's just going to waste in XP. But, I have a core2duo E8500 and I can run multiple instances of Kontakt, Omnisphere and a shitload of effects plugins and have no issues. I also use Realtek HD w/ Asio4All

Try overclocking that i5? :dunno:

I would very much like to know the result. Let me know whether FL does better job per core or per clock.

Do you run FL.exe or FL (extended memory).exe? On my pc, FL (extended memory).exe solves most of the crushing problems.

    nah, I can't overclock....

This is why I opted for the i5-2500T as it's 45w TDP design. The case I'm dropping it into is TIGHTTTTT and heat is going to be an issue. I'm trying to spare as much power as I can. I might even opt for the 17-2600S which is 65w...But we will see.

your current cpu sounds powerful enough, if anything it may be your soundcard or fl itself causing some high cpu use..u seem to just want an i5 for no good reason at all core duo are very good cpu trust me. only use realtek HD..put money towards a good pci-e soundcard. Also windows 7 requires specific motherboards. you don't need to overclock if u r smart and know what u are doing.
