Hi guys, just a quick report; sadly, Volumeshaper 4 appears to be timebombed.
The latest R2R release.
I don't know if it's date-triggered (like the U-he stuff) but on May 1st it happened;
upon loading several instances in the project, it was the 3rd instance or so that triggered the time bomb.
The graphics became fragmented (see pic attached) and the browser opened the cableguys.de webpage whenever I clicked on any of the controls.

Luckily my DAW is offline, so the plugin didn't manage lock itself online, but it remained all messed up.
The audio appears to be still processing all right, but the graphics are close to unusable.

It would be nice if someone could alert R2R of the problem so that they try and fix it.

i rember a few years ago mr u-he was on the darkside giveing out about something .
then someone said to him he should sell his code to make more money ? maybe he did this.
or they learn to do it them-selfs after they seen how good it worked for u-he plugins,

did you put your clock back to a day befor the 1st may to see if it works again
if it is like uhe bom and it works befor that date, put you clock forward to the 1 jan 2016
and see if it starts runing ok again,

 

check the remarks on the AZ page, removing/deleting crashlog file resets the gui

 

its still working ok here ?

its not working now,got a error then it trys to opens a web page to Cableguys
crash log and your ser ?
ill have to read the AZ page as well

Edit: found a fix
For those on Mac go to:
hd/users/username/library/Cableguys
search for volumeshaper crashlog and delete it
and for those on windows do the same with:
C:\Documents and Settings\%user%\AppData\Roaming\Cableguys\VolumeShaper\3volumeshaper4\presets\

i just removed this file from there

crashlog-VolumeShaper44

and it works ok now,
but some users are saying it will come back again.

ok found a fix if you open Volumeshaper4.dll in a hex editor
look for ( crashlog ) there are two of them.
change any one of the letters in the two crashlog txt = crashmog or crashloh ect ect
and it wont stop working even if the file crashlog-VolumeShaper44 comes back again.
will test it out now for a bit and let you know it its fixed for good.

if you keep getting errors give it a try

 

Easiest way to fix the problem is to simply rename the file "crashlog-VolumeShaper44" into anything you want, in my case I've called it "stupid" *yes*
Since I've done that I didn't have that GUI-problem again. I'm on Win7 64bit, the file is under User > AppData > Roaming > Cableguys
btw: I've had that corrupted GUI from the very first time I've used the plugin back in January, so I don't think it's a timebomb. (but what do I know... )

i think you just have to change one crashlog txt in the dll and the other one reads it
as the crashlog-VolumeShaper44 in now crashmog-VolumeShaper44 lol
will post a new fix in a few hrs or when the sun comes back up

 

Since I renamed the file the GUI is looking like it should do and no browser was opened anymore. The file just stays where it is and "crashlog-VolumeShaper44" didn't show up again. I certainly can't tell if it's working for everybody, but I never had any sorts of problem with the Plugin again.
It's not a very fancy workaround but it's doing the job

 

that plugin is soo worth buying... I use that thing like crazy!!!

love that thing... and their prices are very fair.

Deleting the file won't help (at least here on Windows), because the damn thing will come back again.

I can't exactly remember, but I think it appeared on several occasions like closing the plugin-window or closing the DAW. And whenever the file called "crashlog-VolumeShaper44" (with the ending ".0") is in that folder, next time you open the plugin your GUI will look like in the OP and when you click it anywhere your web browser will open and go to Cableguys-website.

Don't know what the reason for all that is, it's pretty strange for sure, but: rename the file and you'll be fine

 

After trying to fix the error but it keeps coming back each time.
i was reading the Cableguys web page and there saying its a spike bug
with there plugin thats setting it of in version 4
they fixed it in v 4.2 what we dont have yet

you could try copy a few versions of the plugin and rename them
so if i wanted to use the same plugin again in your Project
grab a other copy and not use just the same one plugin what is setting of the bug for some
when you clone it if thats the right word,

@DrumcodeX will try what you did sometimes fixes can be that easy.

 

has anyone else tried just creating a blank text file with the same file name and placing that into the relevant folder location? at the moment the error has not re-appeared in my DAW

edit: LOL ignore that just noticed it had errored after approx 10 minutes of no activity but DAW and project is open

I let the web page open and it appears to send info back to cableguys (I copied the url) although the page displayed is their front page, the plugin key / OS / and pc id (init?) are sent via the url (I have removed the digits from the url) however the only data contained within the crashlog is "ok"

i was annoyed by the timebomb and i fixed this some months ago. Now i don't remeber what i did LOL

Ok now i remember:

1)delete the crashlog file

C:\Documents Settings\%user%\AppData\Roaming\Cableguys\VolumeShaper\3volumeshaper4\presets\

2)Go here, and take administrator controll for the folder "VolumeShaper"

C:\Documents Settings\%user%\AppData\Roaming\Cableguys\

3)Change the permission for "SYSTEM" related to the "Volumeshaper" folder and apply this to subfolder if asked

Check boxes in the "deny" list: Write and Modify

4)Apply and done

if something isn't clear i'll apologize since my i don't have a ENG version of win7, but you can ask me if you have some troubles

(this should apply to Mac too, i did it for 32Lives and change the permission fixed also this)

 

though its difficult to tell from the size of your avatar... Are you rolling a joint with tobacco in it?.. AND a filter? I would think the filter would block some of the thc from gettin to your brain... in other words, waste it... I could be wrong though

i did it wrong the first time and the error file came back again fixed it like this,
first i set systum to deny in folder settings/security
then opened the advanced settings
there were two systum settings showing up one <not inherited> that was blocked
and the other inherited by c/my name what keep letting the error file come back.
To remove systum permissions for c/ my name /untick include inheritance permissions from this object's parent
you can then remove the inherited systum setting and keep the <not inherited> one set to block.
im on vista still whats the worse files pc ever,
