Composer Cloud is the largest, most-awarded virtual instrument collection on the planet, available for the first time
at a single low subscription price:

IT'S NOT AN INSTRUMENT. IT'S ALL OF THEM...

Composer Cloud opens the gates to over 9,000 of the most detailed, professional-quality virtual instruments, delivering
over $11,000 of value for a low monthly price.

You get access to all included collections:
An early subscription grants unrestricted entry to the entire EastWest Composer Cloud instruments collection with the
    click of a button.

    Access to new collections:
All future EastWest releases will be immediately available to Composer Cloud subscribers, including exclusive content.

    Simple download on demand:
A new installer enables individual collection to be downloaded and used without disrupting the creative workflow

    Choose iLok or machine license:
You now have the choice of using an iLok security key or machine (electronic) licenses installed on your computer for
    instant access.

    Subscription Plans:

Our $29.99/month plan gives members instant access to 7 products of their choice, plus an additional product every
three months they remain enrolled. AVAILABLE APRIL 23

Our $49.99/month plan gives members access to everything in Composer Cloud. A one time activation fee equal to one
month’s subscription based on your plan is charged to cover licensing and data download costs. AVAILABLE APRIL 23
Special offer for EastWest customers for first year - $29.95/month AVAILABLE NOW

There is a one-time $29.99 activation fee administered at the start of your subscription to cover the license fees
    and download costs.

You can upgrade your membership plan at end of any subscription month. For example, if you signed up on the 10th of
the month, you can upgrade your plan on the 10th of any following month.

As soon as you have signed up and we have received your first payment, your membership begins and you can start
downloading our virtual instrument collections right away.

Our PLAY software and the virtual instrument products will be installed directly on your desktop or hard drive so you
can use them on or offline. You will be required to log in to the Installation Center once a month to automatically
    reactivate your license.

Most of our award-winning products offer unprecedented detail which can result in substantial file sizes. Therefore you
will find it more convenient to download each product overnight using our new Installation Center software. Our
Installation Center software will monitor your download with a progress bar and will resume any partially downloaded
product should there any interruption. The Installation Center also gets you activated so you are ready to make some music!

No iLok! For the first time, we are offering machine (electronic) licenses that do not require purchase of an iLok.
However, if you already have an iLok 2 you can choose to use that instead for portability, and everything will still work
as before. Please note: Composer Cloud is not compatible with iLok 1

For electronic licenses, activation is limited to one machine per individual connected with a membership. If you upgrade
your computer equipment you can deactivate your license and reactivate on your new computer. To use Composer Cloud on
multiple computers you have the iLok option.

Nothing will happen to your compositions if you cancel. Anything composed during your membership will be yours to use as you
choose forever. You simply won’t be able to access the instruments as before to create new compositions. We recommend rendering
all instruments from your compositions to your digital audio workstation should you wish to cancel.

I'd rather put those 30 $/euro/whatever aside every month and buy the composer's collection than pay this forever... (Unless the discounted collections magically and suddenly disappear...) Crap value for money (especially if you're on the hobbyist side). I'd consider it if it was 5 or 10 or something but, even then, I don't know if I'd want to keep it going forever. It's good if you can't throw the cash all at once but what about the long-term?

And as I understand it you still need a pretty powerful machine with resources to waste due to the lack of purge and bad programming. Add to that RAM + SSDs, at least for the Hollywood Diamond (although they don't make it clear whether you can use Diamond with this or not). Play Pro is supposedly coming (again) along with mysterious, apocryphal features...

I thought you wouldn't have to download anything but on second thought it'd be impossible to stream the sounds or play them in (something like try-sound). Maybe when we have 1Gbps or 1 Tbps connections...

Except if you think you'll be making so much back that the monthly cost is negligible...

    Good riddance, iLok. :bleh:

PS Are those activation fees for real? Isn't the subscription money enough?
PS2 This can serve very well as a trial...

That... And you'll have issues with old projects if you decide to cancel... You'll have to bounce everything, be unable to make changes, keep paying fees at random times (even if you have the libraries downloaded already from the previous membership) or buy the full, permanent licenses.

(Except if the [or part of] the monthly subscription adds up in your account and allows you to acquire full licenses [more easily]. But that's probably wishful thinking...)

"If you cancel before the end of your one year term, you will be billed 50% of your remaining contract obligation. If you need to cancel, just email [email protected]."

    *no* :snuffy:

The whole cloud-based model for software licensing might seem a great idea for companies to nip so-called "piracy" in the bud, but it's affordable only for deeper-pocketed users (pros and other companies). This includes Adobe, and (soon) Pro Tools. Also, and not least, this sort of thing requires a stable broadband connection to work, which, given the state of wireless outside of major metropolitan areas, is likewise infeasible for a lot of people.

Even if I would have the funds to afford a bunch of cloud-based software (and a great Internet connection), I don't want the security and stability of my data (my WORK), nor of "my" software, to be dependent upon anyone but my own clumsy, distracted self. Some server gets zapped in Switzerland (or wherever), and I don't have an almost-completed album, anymore? And I can't go wring the neck of the irresponsible person responsible for that? Or, the company's Billing Dept. has lost record of my payment - or, of my account - and I don't get to complete my project, nor have access to what I'd completed; if so, not by deadline?

The conventional wisdom (for whatever "conventional wisdom" is worth) is that "this is the way it's going," but it doesn't have to be. Moreover, however, cloud-based software is gonna fail if it becomes the sole means by which people can use it. It is marketed as "convenient" - but for the users, it's ultimately not.
