One thing I've noticed is that people that make comments such as this have never even cracked an egg. Again let me explain what few seem to understand: it doesn't matter if it's theoretically crackable the required input of time is too great for anyone to spend a lifetime cracking something. It's just not worth it, a better option is to stop supporting companies that employ nazi protection methods. Simple as that.

Thats exactly the point. Its easy to say "everything is crackable", but no one cares, how much time it needs. Posting hundreds of requests in different Forums, take the User only minutes, but the cracker needs sometimes to invest days and weeks of his life for a single crack. Often he waisted even days for "trying" to crack something.

Because of that, the very hard to crack, or uncrackable stuff (which works only with Dongle emulator) are mostly kept private, because they are not made by groups, but individuals, who did it for themselves, for good friends, or have other reasons, to keep their solutins for themselves.

Why do some companies use protection that is easily cracked and others use more solid protection? Just curious ...

I'm guessing the more water-tight a DRM system is, the more expensive it is to implement. Most of them are 3rd party 'code' and a lot of DRM programmers business probably comes from the major, well known VST devs, so these guys probably know they can charge a lot because the VST devs want their latest greatest synth to be hermetically sealed! Companies like NI, Waves, UAD etc etc, they probably make a PACKET from sales of some of their synths so I bet the DRM programmers know they can push the boat out a bit. I remember when USB stick DRM came into effect, everyone was scared, but IIRC it didn't take long for the geniuses on the poormans side to create software cracks for a lot of them.

Anyway, as far as I've seen over the years, the term "can't be cracked" is just defeatism. I've always seen piracy as an endless game of cat & mouse. Crackers break in, DRM gets tighter, crackers break in again, and so on forever. I doubt there'll be a point in time where piracy no longer exists.
