Hi mates,
i was stuck to google dns for years but from a couple of days ago i start'd using level 3 services.

But I found that the either the DNS are pretty much "locked" and lack of performance (by performance i dont mean super-fast-download etc.. i know that DNS cant do miracles)... I've also try the good ol' OpenNIC ones, but i get black-listed by trackers on torrent.

Did you know any good alternative for european/italian net?

You can give a chance to:

- OpenDNS (USA)
- Comodo Secure DNS (UK?)

...or alternative. Good info about free DNS here (italian blog).
The free DNS in Italy which I know are related to italian ISP.

Try it carefully... one could be the right DNS for you. You could use a Google app to benchmark DSN service

I use DNSCrypt and my location is in Europe, if u check the DNSCrypt prefs u can choose many EU DNS servers.
I think u will find a good one!

 

thanks for the advice but i dont wanna run any dns-related software... after the resolution of the "banning peers", i think i will stay on openNIC for a couple of days monitorin' the situation...

 

Mmm Italy here and I use OpenDNS:

Everything works great both on my IP and VPN, really dunno how it works with torrents since I use torrents maybe once a year or not even that...
But keep in mind my DSL max speed is DL@400kbps / UL@30kbps so really I can't know if OpenDNS have an impact on speeds,
since my speed sucks enough on its own and surely it's not DNS capping it
