    Hi all,

I'm after a firewire card to get a small home setup started. I only need 3 inputs: A guitar, an electric violin and a mic.

Any suggestions or has anyone got something to get me going?

    Many thanks,

    Miles

Presonus makes good stuff, I think you only need 2 inputs at any one time, unless you have some crazy skills at playing guitar and violin at the same time lol

Is that the one you use? Are you pretty happy with it? I have an Emu 1820, that connects to a PCI soundcard by ethernet, and I want to get a new one at some point, but not sure whether to go with firewire, or wait for USB3.0 to catch on... if it ever does

Its the one I had, loved it, but I cant get a firewire connection anymore, Im pretty sure the port went bad.

My brother in law has a pro 40, works like a charm on large projects

    i use a cakewalk (roland/edirol) fa-66 interface.
overall i am extremely pleased with the unit.
especially driver stability/compatibility & built in circuitry protection.

Mike, having a personal breakdown... sorta, i truly could have been happy with the Audigy 2 I got relegated to, as it truly was doing the job... kinda...

Unfortunately, TONIGHT.... it also crapped out on me, i went to record some vocals, thru my small berhinger mixer... nothing.. so I plugged the mic, straight in.... nothing...couldnt get anything at all going thru my Audigy..

2 hours later, I dont even have outbound audio... cant hear, or record anything...

so.... for.. the hell of it... I decided to pull my Pro 24 DSP (thats been sitting in my drawer) out, and try it agaain.... well, needless to say, same thing, no firewire light, using the 'new' firewire adapter I have, or the on board fire-wire slot...

Soooooooooooooooo..... in my infinite wisdom, and not having ANY audio now at all... i looked at my wife, and shed a tear, or two, and smashed the hell out of my 400$ pro 24 (long time coming) :snuffy:

It is.. what it is... had a BAD night.. :snuffy:

So, in a nutshell, now I have no audio at all.

I don't know why you would be so generous to someone you dont even know, but to be quite FRANK... yes, your offer feels like a lifesaver to me/

I will gladly pay for any shipping costs...

    Out of my mind..

    :snuffy:

(on board DSP was probably just 100$ wasted anyway.... never used it really)

well, after a few hours sleep, having the 4 pack of 4Lokos dissipate from my system and about 5 hours redoing drivers, rebooting, exchanging cords and adapters, I finally got this old soundblaster card working again. (at least its asio)

So, it's thanks for small mercies I suppose..

I have the Mbox Pro 3, which is firewire and has many ins/outs. The quality is very noticeable over my previous M-Audio Mobile Pre USB. It's not cheap, but it's probably the last interface I'll need for many many years. You can get a student discount on one, with or without ProTools included.
