So, there is a specific 808 that ive been hearing on soundcloud of producers that I follow. I just think it hits so hard and sounds badass in my opinion. I've tried to recreate such an 808 by combining a number of methods (EQ, side-chain compression, expansion, saturation, ect.) with no avail, although I do get samples that sound similar. If anyone could give me their guess of how the producer created this 808 I would really appreciate that. Thanks.

Here is a snippet using the sample:

Layer a kick transient (808 or any kick) with a saturated/overdriven and lowpassed ("simple") FM bass.
Make the FM bass monophonic. Adjust amp ADSR (decay/release length) to taste (maybe some attack time to let the transient come through alone). Boost some 50Hz if needed.

Side chaining and expansion wouldn't help, but I can't knock trying. Sounds like good ol' saturation along with compression.

808s also hit harder and are more pronounced in certain keys.
