I've decided to start cataloging the IP address ranges that developers are using to phone home. Besides the obvious reasons, it's also to disrupt their ability to run any kind of statistical analysis of the warez community. We are not rats to be experimented on. Plus it would be a central repository that would shed some light on which companies are involved in this sort of thing. We could use your help in making this list as comprehensive as humanly possible but please only suggest IPs if you are sure beyond a reasonable doubt that this address is related to something phoning home. So obviously if you're not even using a firewall in interactive mode (no automatic bullshit) please don't even bother posting here. In time this will become infinitely useful to the community and is a sub-project of something that I've been working on for a while now in my spare time. I will even make it into a hosts file ready to be integrated. Keep in mind that hosts files make browsing slower as they grow larger since each address has to be checked against the ones in the list so we need to be efficient.

    Happy hunting. [IMG]

I'm listing the resolved address and the IP address in parenthesis but you only need one or the other if you're adding things piecemeal into your HOSTS file or into your software/hardware firewall. I wlll create a hosts file for you guys ready to download but let's wait until we have a decent amount of addresses first.

Yep some good ones on my list too. Also you bring up a good point: it's important to specify if this is automatic once software is installed or something triggers the calling home such as in uhe Zebra (clicking on the dot). Also uhe loads a web page and this is different then say Sonic Charge and how they go about it. Then one has to make sure that all settings in this app that could possibly check for updates are disabled, otherwise it's not calling on it's own accord but rather you have granted it permission to do so. And as a sidenote don't click on the dot in Zebra.

I have legit Serum and Little Snitch installed (that will tell if any program / plug-in tries to call home) and haven't noticed it calling home so far.
And I've used it really a lot

izotope ozone 6 exe wants to connect
RX 4 won't run without a connection, on win7 anyway, I'll try this again later as this o/s's ilok has gone kaputt
    steinbergs vstbridgeapp.exe
    and as mentioned Daws
I'll add the suspicious stuff off my main offline O/S later after retesting
xfer took me to a buy page when serum serial needed re-inputting, so not sure that was snitching as opposed to being helpful

scratch izotope other system is ok for both, though only had limited use, the problem seems to be this o/s and ilok even when fixed
yeah it is stupid just uninstalled all izotope from this o/s as it screws up ilok everytime but fine on the other o/s :dunno:

only other stuff is daw related thats tried to auto connect
    samplitude vstbridge
    cakewalk vstscan.exe and bitbridge.exe

Sorry I can't help, my DAW computer is permanently unplugged. I'm a bit anal, I even have a separate Linux machine for personal/financial stuff as I don't trust Windows. This one is my Wild West surfing computer :bleh:

iZotope RX4 won't run without an Internet connection? Now that's utterly and completely stupid. My Audio DAWs [XP and W7] are not connected to the Internet and I intend to keep it that way. :snuffy: Besides, Windows tend to work better when you disable networking [no DPC issues]. Only Linux is used for Internet here and I advise that to every audio professional who cares about his work and data. Internet is indeed a massive Wild West. :(

It would be nice to know the apps/plugins which don't work without the Internet connection. I have nothing of that kind and everything works without the Ethernet/Internet, except u-he Ace which bombed despite not being connected so it must be checking serials on the computer it's installed to somehow.

Legit Steinberg Cubase 7 - you cannot install it without the Internet connection, but once installed you can turn it off and work normally. IK Multimedia plugins same thing, the last time I had to install it [legit]. But cracked version works without the Internet and Custom Shop. That's why some of my clients prefer cracked versions despite having bought a legit version... Some developers just take it too far. :(

  15. My DAW computer isn't connected to the outside world, but the next time Serum asks me for the serial I'll note the address that it wants to visit.
Keep up the good fight, Catalyst, keep on keepin' on.

ANY plugin which provides "Check for update" routines are "calling home".

Yeah but the point is that if the check for update routines are disabled then it shouldn't. Software shouldn't EVER call home without user interaction. And no saving a preset and having a web browser open is not user interaction in my opinion. That is simply appropriating someone's internet.
