Yes, I was thinking the same thing as tidus - since you have already created something rather than having the block with nothing created yet, this type of writer's block is probably going to be along the lines of "mismatch of expectations". Translated here it means that the music is not something you expected it to be. And if you're willing to entertain the possibility that everything we create exists, it has to therefore exist according to the same values as everything else that exists; so then IT too lives to perform a function, but in this case, not one that you expected. You have two choices. you can either go with and develop what the music actually is, or you can reject it and start again.

EDM is the americanized-garbage-for-the-masses version of dirty dutch, which was already a commercial version of hardstyle, which was already a form of gabber house… and before that, we were just raving in caves :break:

No wonder you're bored at the very start of the track. EDM sucks. The worst thing ever happened to house music... since the gay pride

Maybe, just change genre (or pick a real one). Find the roots that defines the kind of music you like.

You'll get inspired for sure and (as a bonus) you won't sound like everyone else.

I am referring to EDM as in electronic dance music not the American kind like Steve Aioki or Skrillex. I listen to mainly happy hardcore, gabber, and trance, artists like Scott Brown, Gammer and G Spencer, dj kambel, angerfist, scooter, darude, basshunter, armin van buuren etc.

    its a good start bud.
I'd add a clap loop in after 8 bars of the drop.
    and rythmic synth stabs.
break the the main drop into 4 bar sections and have something change to build the energy towards the breakdown.
as for bass line i'd start with a triplets bassline and layer in your sounds over that.
use whitenoise swipes to introduce new sections and drum rolls to get out of an old one. cliche techniques i know but they do help frame the track and you c an dump them later on for more artistic choices.

you've got the main theme, the rest is all about taking us on a journey through the whole song.

check out some you tube clips on EDM production, there's heaps of good advice

WELL If you got a melody thats a ton of different harmony's you can make out of it, can you write progressions, if no , study how progressions work, just turning it into a exercise can still make it fun to work with, thats how a lot of composers start with chord progressions and even if they've been done before, which I assure you they all have, it just becomes a base which you can build over and takes a lot of the hard work out, you got to understand what works first before you can start breaking the rules and it helps speed the whole process up, that in itself stops you getting the block, as you won't get bogged down in it, if you know all that stuff , then just write anything, the process of working will clear your block, 99% persperation and 1% inspiration is how it goes, even for the greats. Once you put some blood and sweat into it, the fun bit is the reward of hearing it all work together.
There's really so much you can do once you got a bit of the theory behind you, transpose it, modulate it, invert it, turn it into a cannon, find different ways of structuring it, change the texture, double the length or half the length of all the notes, double the intervals between the notes, change the type of scale, take the track somewhere with modulation, it could write itself without inspiration, just need to enjoy learning and you'll find what works your own style

"EDM" has got to be one of the stupidest Genres invented, I still don't understand what "electronic dance music" refers to , isn't that everything made electronically ? lol , when people try to classify something under "EDM" I always get a giggle :mates:

yes I agree its more harder trance, bit harder then van buuren & that kinda stuff, Im not familiar with any of the other artists mentioned.

Never mind the genre, it was already confusing twenty years ago…

My point was to get a musical culture, that goes back to the roots of a genre.
If you want to play rock today, you should have a listen to the 60/70's.

Van Buuren doesn't get his inspiration from his butt, now does he?
As a DJ you must have a solid musical culture. No wonder most of the top producers are former DJ.

Here are some classics you HAVE to know if you're into (hard)trance(core).
