    Man... i was expecting this...
It looks like a nice deal to me.
It seems that more and more audio related software devs start to approach this subscription fashion.

This is one of the best business models of the 21st century.

    It all started from Netflix.

For 4 cups of starbucks coffee a month you can get all the Slate Plugins.

I just hope they give a reasonable amount of free months to owners of their licenses, I spent $400 on 3 of their plugins last week

Why would you do that ?

At this moment Cubase 8 Pro + Slate FX get me covered for pretty much everything. Add few more plugins on top if you need one.

With C8and Slate FX I get:

    Daw - checked
Compressors - stock + all slate's (and I would get PSP oldtimer for opto smooth compression)
    Limiters - stock, Slate
Saturation - VTM, VCC plus stock plugs (I would also buy Decapitator because it kicks ass)
EQ - stock for clean purposes (I think a voxengo one is included ), SSL and Neve by Slate (and I would add PSP NobleEQ for Pultec emu)
Reverb - stock + Relab LX480 (and I would add some Valhallaroom and VVV)
Delays - stock (plus Echoboy not neccesserily)
Various modulation FX's etc - stock and there are a lot of cheap stuff out there
Amplification - stock (Amplitube 3 with few custom amps) and I'm covered

So with 25$/a month + some bucks if you don't like stock FX's you can get away and have literarry everything you would need for mixing...

that mother had better not force owners into subscriptions for update-access, I'll be fuckn pissed... I don't care what is newsletter says about "not changing a thing for owners"... there's no telling what slate digital's business model will be like 4 years from now. And he sure as hell doesn't have the restraint to tune-out shareholders and namm reactions.

furthermore, :( I'm still pissed about him changing VCC to the frickn VMR...

I tell you what, if UAD ever goes to this they would sell a shit ton of hardware... I'd buy the UAD Octo tomorrow if I had access to all the plugins for a reasonable monthly price

The monthly Subscription will keep the plugins at a high price to entice it. So when that $200 coupon comes your way it may get you one, possibly 2 plugins so you'l need to keep paying the subscription for another year.

And as eHeavy said if every company goes down this route then $20 a month for every manufacturer will be mega bucks. And thers no way theres one company that can supply all of our needs.

Finance is creeping into every aspect of life, but this is worse in my opinion.

i think this is a real try before buy approximation, for owners of slate stuff is better , free months depending on your amount of plugins........but...... its like new videogames the newbs pay for better stuff to win the pros , in this case i imagine slate thinking this " pirate scumbags heres the candy take it for 25$ a month once in your damn life" :bleh:

A finance option to own the plugins would be a much better idea. Yeah pay monthly but once youve payed for what the plugins are worth with some interest on top than the payments stop and the plugins are yours

What if I build up a mix, using the rent mode, and I don't like the final result? Throw away the time spent and the money? No way. In my opinion, if you have enough money, buying the suite is still the better choise. Otherwise look around and you will find something similar: good mix, or whatever else, does not depends on the stuff you use but the way you use it.

@eHeavy & MadMike, even if all the companies goes to the "subscription" fashion, what's holding you back from using your actual tools which doesn't require any subscription?
You can just pick one company for the subscription stuff and mix their stuff with your actual plugins that you use. Why would you even have to subscribe to all of them? If you mean just for the sake of updates then think about your actual versions which you're using right now and works like a charm.

Yes, but you don't pay "228$" each month, only 20$ or 25$. Who's going to calculate the yearly spenses anyway? :dunno: Can't you hustle enough in order to get 20$ in 30 days, or at least out of your salary? We spend way more money on cigaretes monthly than the plugs we own and also if you calculate that yearly, it's way beyond your tools costs. I'm glad i'm not a smoker.
Also... as i said, you're not forced to apply to any subscription, just use your actual great plugs. :mates: Great music is made the way you use the tools&instruments, not the tools in particular.

I would still calculate it yearly, i cant not really. I dont want everything i purchase to be a monthly payment, maybe its just my age. Anyway you are right, i can make music with what i have now so i can save my money until im forced to change :)
