I have downloaded a library called "SMACK" and the Library added to my Kontakt Player (v5.3) but when I clicked to add a patch, a dialog box came up that said "Your version of Kontakt is too old to load this file. You can update to the latest version by exiting and starting Service Center".

I've been reading that v5.4 isn't stable enough to install. Is there any way I can edit the .nki files to be able to load in Kontakt v5.3?

Why? Because i now use my time to CREATE. Create things with
my hands, it's a lot more fun + joy.

What I do now? A lot of crafts, painting, giving Art lessons,
designing handmade Jewelry, go to concerts with friends,
pushing up the (poor) cultural scene here in my village,
caring for my cat and so on…

If you where on Win you could have many old version installed i have Kontakt 3.5, 4.1.1, 4.2.3, 4.4, 5.0 5.2 5.3 5.4 i just renamed the dll and exe files and installed the new version but i dont think you do that trick on Mac so you have to always use the latest version if you want to load LIB:s that are newly made

I'm also on the similar way, but more into audio. I've always been just an average painter anyway. Software is only good when it works without crashing. Everybody's goal should be to find that sweet spot that works for them and make music, stop updating software [especially OS] because you end up in a constant cycle of updating and never getting any work done. People should also be aware of the fact that update almost never equals more stable, too. That's one of the reasons why I still run Windows XP, still have last Kontakt 4 if I need it [not much], even older versions of some plugins that proved themselves to be stable and working. Just stop the vicious cycle! It's a drug, or a bug but within ourselves!

I'm in pursue of more organic sound anyway, and the only way to achieve that is buying hardware, mostly analogue, avoiding DSP anything, keeping digital to a necessary minimum. Ebay and knowledge is my friend. Rather waste some time researching audio equipment on the Internet than troubleshooting software problems, of which I have none, zilch, nada...

you can also download the latest version of kontakt then use Native Instruments - Universal Unlocker for Kontakt v1-Tracer to crack it

 

Kontakt and other software are updated to keep pace with developments in O/S and system architecture. For example, Kontakt up through version 5.2 ran on 32-bit systems; then it had to be updated to 5.3 be able to run on Lion, and then to 5.3.1 to run on 64-bit Mountain Lion. (Or something like that; I lost track some time last year.) Then Kontakt had to be updated to run on Yosemite. Native Instruments is scrambling to update its Guitar Rig Pro 5, Traktor and other software which is MIDI-dependent, to be compatible with Yosemite. I'm running Kontakt 5.4.2 on Yosemite, but have kept a partition with Mountain Lion on the disk for Logic Pro projects requiring/using Guitar Rig Pro 5. The latest update to Kontakt (5.4.x) is for compatibility with Native Instruments' own upgrade-forcing developments, such as Komplete Kontrol.

With all that in mind, wouldn't it be really cool if more than a handful of those developing third-party libraries for Kontakt would do so using, say, version 4.1, or 5.2, for the sake of broad compatibility; perhaps with optional update versions included? Whom are they wanting to please, anyway?

 

My version of Kontakt I have installed is a K'd version (5.3), not a retail version.

I have a huge collection of K'd libraries that I use. Can I still try the above recommendation?

 

Don't think it's about greed but mainly that most 3rd party developers have genuine products installed & therefore they naturally gonna update. Therefore backwards compatibility gonna always be a real issue.

I personally have found Kontakt 5.4.1 & above perfectly stable & the recent upgrades mainly for compatibility with regards to Komplete 10 architecture & infrastructure.

The way round this issue is for 3 pary devs to maybe say finalize everything on 4.2.4 lol or 5.0.3 as many do but then you gonna get problems when it comes to coding in the upgrades WRT to new filters, Solid bus etc, Komplete software etc,etc.

So it a vicious circle really & the only way around it is to upgrade to the latest version so that u can legitimately run the latest libraries.
