Planning to switch to 64bit - which SW has to be bridged/won't work?

    Hi there,

lately I ran into some Win-7-out-of-memory errors while producing, so I'm planning finally switching to a 64 bit DAW (Live 9, Win7).

I know that there are many 64bit plugins available, and it will be a tedious process to collect and install them all (unfortunalty I tended not to install 64bit plugins even if the installer offered them). Well, bad luck. (My current VST folder lists around 1300 single dlls btw.) I plan to have a slim system now, with only the best of the best VSTs.

My question is: What esssential plugins do you know of which don't support 64bit/cannot be bridged either?

I'm talking some nice older freeware here (Kjaerhus FXs for example) as well as some of the famous AiR stuff (Nexus2). I'm not talking about legit stuff obviously. ;)(Though some companies like Superwave still don't provide 64bit plugs).

For example I'd love to buy Nexus, but the dongle is a definitive deal breaker to me, so bridging is the only solution, and I stand by my words. Some goes for Soundtoys.

So what do you 64bit guys really miss? What did you successfully bridge? What VSTs cannot be used any more, even with bridging?

    Thanks for any hints!

personally jbridge has worked with all vst's (XP onwards) I've tried using S1, once you work out how to use jbridge that is, then you should be okay

But I guess you haven't tested all your 32bit-only plugs with heavy use?

I installed Jbridge the other day and had some errors while scanning my Dlls, but personally I don't care if some old random freeware VST is not working any more.

Nexus and Soundtoys seem to work at first glance, but obviously I haven't started a big project with those yet to substantiate that statement.

Are there any big disadvantages using Jbridge?

I think the latest version of jbridge had some problems, so I down graded to a previous version and everything is fine again

if i dont see a plugin written in 64bit i dont bother to install it.

64 bit os/daw/plugins are the way to go imo

Unfortunately there are some plugins I really miss: NI spectral delay, Antares Kantos, TC native and TC mercury to name a few :(

just install only what you need i remember on a fresh os install with minimum plugs and software seem to run faster sound cleaner, really weird but truth at least about sounding cleaner go with what your Big Ears :grooves: tell you *yes*

One tip for using jBridge: do not tick box to automatically scan your vst folder for plugins to bridge, if you have installed x86 andx64 versions of the same plugins, or else you will have duplicate bridged and unbridged x64 versions of the same plugins which will slow down or crash your DAW. Bridge each x32 plugin individually. *yes*

Agreed, but that's no solution for Nexus/Soundtoys. As I stated above, dongle=no buy.

Also I want to be able to open and work on older/and or unfished projects which use 32bit only plugs.

I'd love that, still problem with my older projects remains.

There's an option: "Just bridge 32bit" - I used that.

I bridge everything, but of course I just use the brided files I need - so I put all brided files in a temporary folder and only copy to my VST folder what I really need.

Problem is: What do I really need... ;)

jbridge is kinda annoying for me. I'm an ableton user and 2 weeks ago my daw couldn't detect a lot of plugins that were running on x64. I was using ableton on x64 and i switched my daw with one that runs on x32 and my big surprise was that it detected ALL my plugins. I suggest you to do same thing.

Hm, that makes no sense to me. I want a 64bit DAW of course.

I stopped caring about bridging plugins in 2014 and just moved on! I only miss echoboys and softube plugs. But it's okay… :)
