hi , welcome to this new year of 2015

i used to be a legit Cubase user for years, and my cubase / steinberg user experience ended with Cubase v5.5 , i have switched then to using Studio One v2.5 and since then i do only swear by studio one as it reminds me so much the old Logic Audio Platinum and its amazing 'straight to the point', simplified and fast workflow.

so, the question is: how is Cubase v8 ?

being used to studio one, how do the workflow compare? i have no idea how is it because i have never used cubase v6 & 7 .. can i drag & drop easily plugins and vsti's using a plugin manager exactly as it is in studio one or maybe it is done better in cub8??

recently, i have tried samplitude v13.1 (it felt just like cubase v5 and a jump of about 6 years backwards in terms of workflow and user interface!) but it was well fit with features studio one is missing (mostly midi), also tried Reaper v 4.7.. uhm no! and Live is definitely not for me as i'm making music the 'oldschool' way, i do mostly blues/jazz/rock, i record keyboards and track guitars & bass live and i fucking hate programming the dumb synths or use computer assisted gimmicks for electronic music etc.

i would love to use Logic Pro, but can't switch to a mac; and that's because i have two UAD-2 pci-e cards and an RME HSDSP9632 pci audio card; so if i get one of those dumb imacs or an overpriced macpro cylinder, that would mean i would need to get rid of the uad-2 & rme pci cards and buy some of that new fucking overpriced USB/FW hardware from UAD and RME to get something equal i have now on pc... which i just can't. -that's why fuck macs! :bleh:

the asked price for the upgrade from cubase v5.5 to v8 is 299eur, should i go for it or stay with studio one and wait for v3 ?

Studio One and Live user here... (Used Cubase until 5)

I have considered buying cubase 8 too. But I think I would be foolish to do so before at least seeing what they have included in Studio One v3. I Actually Love Studio one but its missing a couple of things and the GUI is butt ugly. If they address some of my gripes then I would see no reason to move to Cubase tbh.

Cubase 8 Pro has a lot of bugs ATM (I do believe those will be fixed soon however), but 7.5 is just rock solid. While I had some criticism towards Steinberg in the past, in all fairness, switching to Cubase 7.5 was such a relief. So, I agree with Popeye. You can't go wrong with Cubase. Also, be aware, if you purchase the license for Cubase 8, you can run previous versions, provided that you have installer, of course. Good Luck.

I'd say stick with Studio One. I used Cubase for years up to 6.5. I demoed some of their subsequent releases but they never gave me the speed in workflow that I get from Studio One. Even if Cubase has improvements I always look at how quickly a company takes to fix things. Presonus Studio One updates regularly and for free.

I really didn't like the workflow in Cubase. I've only tried version 5 because I didn't like it enough to buy it (or an iLok), and I'm sure they've made lots of improvements, but I felt that even basic functions required a lot more steps than they needed to. I especially hated the way VSTi was handled. Having to open a special little manager window just to add an instrument track.

Edit: That said, it's a compromise like so many other things. Cubase does have a ton of good features. It just takes a long time to access them lol.

you can add a instrument track by right clicking / add instrument.

It is all fun & games if you have a stable system that works no problems with Cubase Pro 8 , it is NOT fun & games if you spend $700 & end up with a unstable program on your system.

Im speaking from experience & im not exclusively the only one having issues (just google around) but various people ranging through to laptops & desktops people are experiencing issues between Windows 7 Desktop Manager / Aero Themes & Cubase 8 , if you don't use Windows 7 then I guess its no big deal, however the conclusion remains that it does have bugs currently & you will have to wait lets say roughly 6 months for them to iron out the most severe ones.

All I can say is I recommend to do some googling & look to see if any issues are happening on remotely similar hardware setups to yours.

or you can just do what nuttertools says , purchase Cubase Pro 8 but download the Cubase 7.5 installer from the "downloads" section on steinberg site.

All that being said I still think Cubase is killer, professional menus & features, the program makes sense to me rather than something like FL Studio (horrible icons everywhere , bloated non-useful menu bars, un-conventional ways for doing industry standard things etc etc)

That little window lets use the all the outputs the plugin has, where as right clicking to create instrument track gives you a stereo out. As for Ilok, your lok-ing up the wrong tree

Cubase itself uses a elicencer, that should come in the box, ilok is purchased separately but its basically same thing though just for other stuff.

I use cubase 8 and it is good, but i dont think its worth you spending the money to change from studio one yet. The new workflow is an improvement but it still feels bodged and media bay is still very slow in comparison to others. The new window setup in my opinion isnt exactly dockable either. You dont feel like you can position things how you like without messing with workspaces etc.

Maybe wait for a few more releases before changing over or definatley demo it first!!!

Tried Cubase 5 some years ago, workflow was too slow for me. i believe the 8 is a big improvement. now i'm on Studio One. Cubase users answer to my questions:

-Can Cubase play loop in sync from the browser like Studio one (with dedicated volume knob)?
-Can Cubase "render" things like S1. you can add a reverb to a snare apply "render" and transform it to audio then in everytime you can go back to the snare click on "restore" and change again the reverb settings or add plugins, without modify the chain in the channel?
-Is Vari Audio good as Melodyne ARA, again can you render back&forth?
-When i was on 5 didn't like Stock Eq can you replace it, i mean the graphical part? (but i think the answer will be no)
-I saw Eddie Thoneick in studio using version 7 or 7.5, he saves his vsti + channel strip. Is it possible to store also midi information like S1 Musicloop?
-Automation have bezier curve or some tool to change the shape to a curve?
-Freeze works like in Logic Pro X(you can't edit with freeze on) or like in S1(you can edit because it turn in audio)

thank you for your time :mates:

uhh i watched to that video about 'ui enhancements' ... meh it seems now a bit scary and over-featured! - definitely NOT simplified!, why there is a need to go to that upper left corner to click that stupid button to have either the 'explorer' activated or not on the left? why they just didnt put that button just above the explorer? :wow: that's a bit lame, i still prefer how it is done in in the current version of S1 ! ..with just 3 big buttons right in the bottom right 'instruments / effects / audio' .. now it makes me think twice before going back to steinberg (and its whole bunch of lameness and fucking annoyances i have experienced when i was using cubase from v4 to v5.5) i prefer to wait a bit and see how it will be done in S1 v3.0 .. and of course that other thing that scares me off from getting the 299eur upgrade is there NO TRIAL of cubase 8 ! i cant fucking throw away 299eur just like that for a daw i will be disappointed in and will experience fucking counter-productive annoyances and daily headache.. like i just had through out use of cubase v4 to v5.5 , it's 'STEINBERG' after all .. and im sure THAT didn't change.
