VI Labs is excited to announce the update of all piano libraries to the FLAC format which offers lossless compression and huge reductions in library file sizes. What does this mean for you? The same exquisite sound quality of our high end sample libraries is now available in a smaller file size. Space requirements are much less of a concern. Loading times are reduced compared to conventional libraries while disk streaming performance is also improved. Sample libraries, while typically sounding very good, are notoriously large in size. Now with VI Labs libraries, you get the best sound quality with the smallest file sizes. For example, the Ravenscroft 275 is reduced in size from 35GB down to a mere 5.8GB. And amazingly, the sound quality is never compromised.

The FLAC version of all pianos is now available to existing customers and can be downloaded from your account. And it’s delivered with all new orders.

While the new FLAC version will continue to be available, the sale ends December 1st! Now is the time to get the finest virtual pianos at low prices and take advantage of the disk space savings offered by the update. There’s never been a better time to own VI Labs virtual pianos!

Happy Holidays from the VI Labs Team

but FLAC is lossless at all ok the size is small, but you lose singal information when converting, while NI made it possible to leave that information intact and use some kind of zipping in their method. i would avoid it to buy the FLAC version, because you can still hear a difference.

You are able to tell the difference between a WAV file and a FLAC file? Seriously???

Maybe its just me, but I really dont get the point! Flac format is great, but afaik the whole thing about libs like VI Labs does them is to protect them from being cracked?!!?

There is no audio data lost when converting to and from FLAC, thats simply wrong to say that.

it will get audible when you master for movie or has a long chain of effect plugins.

FLAC is a bitrate reduction just like mp3. its an audio compression and this means in terms of audio definitely to lose signal information.

one could argue here, hey i cant hear its perfect lossless, but when you manipulate the sound long enough you will hear the different or when you work like i said for higher quality needing parts of the production.

Well... i don't know where you heard that flac reduces the bitrate, FLAC is an exact representation of the wav file, if you convert a wav file to flac and then back to wav, you get the exact same number of bits and the initial file and final file are identical, it is just like zip or rar.
I hope you don't take this the wrong way, but just read the wiki about Flac and you will understand: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FLAC
We could try and explain the math behind it, but it could take a while and they do it way better than us ;)

What you say about a long chain of effect is true, but only in the case of going from 24bits to 16bits which is absolutely not the case with Flac (assuming you don't use a flac converter that changes the bit rate in the process).
