    Hey James
I would suggest you to cut all the low end in all your channels where its not a main part of the tone/timber of the instrument.
and also listen and mix while listening to a good high quality reference track from the same or close genre to the Dubstep
and pay attention to the contrast between instruments and the tonal balance and frequency balance over the spectrum
    hope it helped you …
from my personal experience I can say that the bass drum in this particular genre is "thinner" then it sound's
you can listen to some Dub step remix I've done in Indabamusic competition …
link to listen online at indaba's website

hope you will like it …
feel free to leave a comment

    P.S
I used a subwoofer near the end of the mix to polished the low end , but just in the last steps of my mix , all the time the sub was off

Bus your drums, make sure the transients are tight.
    Sidechain your bass.
    Use FM.
    Compression.
    Drum variation is nice.
Use good risers, and incoorporate a consistent theme in the track.
You can still compress and have dynamic range if you do it properly.

What You realy want to do is Save youreself some time and headache and "trim" down your tracks from 60 (!!) to something more manageable.

there are different ways to go about this. It depends on how your workflow is already I guess.

"less is more", especially in dubstep imho. "less sound-elements" makes room for "more bass"

I group my sounds into simple Buss'es

    Drums
    Bass
    Sub Bass
    Synth/keys/etc.
    Pads
    Vocals
    Efx

    And work from there.

Recently I've been using some kind of de-esser plugin on different sounds/elements to remove/control some of those harsh sounding that tend to sneak in, when I (over)cook up my sounds and my track is almost at 100%.

If you arent already "best friend with Youre EQ" then that is what You also want to set as a overall goal :)

    cheers
