The Gen2 router needs an ethernet adapter, the newer Gen3 has ethernet built in. I had a Gen2 so I purchased the adapter and plugged it...

check before buying that the drive IS NOT SMR. If you buy a SMR drive, you will curse your life. Usually those cheap Seagate drives...
