Why not -> connecting in RAID 0 Hi can get speed of light :D
I will than recommend 6 core CPU (I'm on I7 3930k - no problem with plugin loads at all) :beg:

I wouldn't recommend an SSD on his budget. That's something that you can always get later as you develop as an artist and invest in your future environment. People made music before SSDs came around and they can still do it. *yes*

Make sure you will be able to expand your RAM later should you be getting into orchestral libraries.

By the way if you're building it then you also need a case and a power supply. If you're buying prebuilt then that's important to mention.

The Fractal case has a nice feature for stealth mounting 2 SSD drives on the side of the case outside of the main chamber, so besides less noise there is also less heat and better air flow.

AND: A the most silent FAN you can get! You don't want sounds from your computer masking frequencies in your music when mixing at low levels

100% agree. Im working with the exact same thing although now i have a Audio Interface and my latency is so much better. Next thing on the list is a decent computer though..

    fuck that

take $450 to $500 and go buy a used core2 duo Mac Book Pro or i5 mac book pro from from craigslist 13 or 15inch .... doesnt matter

    before you buy it

turn it on make sure the wifi bluetooth and camera work correctly.... if they don't .....DONT BUT IT.... these are the 3 components that exist in the bezzle of the lcd.....they tend to be the most problematic areas of macbooks as the wires have to go into the bezzel through the hinges....

***even if this thing is a early 2010 MacBook Pro(UNIBODY) if these components work correctly still the chances are the logicboard is in good condition still

spend the rest of the money on...

-8 gigs of ram (obviously try to find one with 8 gigs already installed if possible for cheap it will most likely come with 4 gigs)
-a 128gig to 256gig ssd (make sure it is a real solid state hard drive and a hybrid)
-a superdrive conversion kit and turn your dvd slot into a 2nd internal hard drive .....

    thats it...

the built in audio card they came stock with your macbook is decent for now... buffer setting and sizes should adequately compensate for latency for the most part..... as long as you aren't running 5 Kontacts and 4 spires at the same time..... thats when you learn how to freeze and flatten at that point....
get a decent external monitor and a miniport adapter to either hdmi or dvi to plug in your screen ......

and BAM you have a portable home computer that will throw its weight around..... get a wireless keyboard and your in!!! ..... sheesh

start there.... make some music for a few months... get used to making no money and becoming a bit pale from lack of sunlight.... give in pay for a rapidshare account already.....lol

save up buy an apoge duet

honestly when i began making music i didnt intend on being a windows defrag, image mounting, driver audio menu researching, buffer size adjusting ...downloading expert.... i hate that shit... (really im lying i love it)

but as a beginer dealing with a unstable machine i.e. hmmmm every windows computer ever made..... they come built to fail... unless you're ready to manually turn off every automatic update setting and adjust the pageing file sizes and careful monitor every single possible download for some stupid yahoo fucking toolbar i didnt ask for ...... that shit is a damn headache..... can we get to the part where i get to make music already...

on mac osx you dont deal with any of that shit..... obviously i have my mac quite customized ... all cache and temps being bused to a second SSD ... shit like that... ya know...littlesnitch....itunes completly removed and all the fun stuff covered in different threads on these here forums...

if you absolutly must build your own homemade obsolete bulky piece of furniture like a windows tower (because you know how to build computers) ROFL..... make sure to wear protection ..... remember friends dont let friends waste money.....pay me and ill build your lab for you the right way within a realistic budget....

i have the comp i just told you to build and a i7quad core hackentosh i built for around the same price...

Since we are all getting a little bit crazy .. just buy any old junk second-hand computer .. the real good computers are not here yet :bleh:

What I mean is, Broadwell Macbooks and 8-core Extreme Edition CPU's with DDR4 memory that can be dual-booted with Win/OSX.

Sure there is always something better coming over the horizon, but the two I mentioned above are special, i.e. 40% less power draw on the Broadwell, and 8-Cores (16 threads) on the EE which is pretty big news for mobile or desktop :mates:

I certainly won't be buying any new computer gear until 2015

Those comments about PCs sound like they were written more than a decade ago. Windows works just fine and is actually better for audio since most DAWs will perform better on Windows. Then you also have the added bonus of not supporting Apple. Yes I know but then you can't go "against the grain" and let everyone know how hip you are in your arbitrary choice of platform. Guess you'll have to find another hobby, like music production.
