    Hello!

Brandon here, only visited the forums a few times and I've seen loads of interesting things!

I'd like to introduce myself very quickly...

Basically: I have a passion for creating sounds and Kontakt libraries, both free and with a price. I've had a huge break from CentralComposers and might be coming back into the world as another name. :P

I was just seeing around, to find anyone who would like to join me in creating a small/medium library of sounds to give out to the public as a gift. I'm willing to hear ideas that are not just in my strengths of sounds, but would like to experience working with someone.

If you'd ever like to create a library of sounds but don't have a clue where to start, how to script, or the basics of the library structure, I'd be happy to give me 2cents (I'm no pro... hehe). Would be good to hear from anyone!

(Little cheeky announcement : If you'd like a free download of Section B (2nd product released), use ILOVEFREESTUFF (coupon code) at the checkout of our down page over at WIX) :P

If you are interested, brandon-spendlove@hotmail(dot)com for faster response. Thanks! -Brandon

Are you looking for any ideas for a library? becausei have a pretty cool idea that I'd love to have is a snare fill library I think it would be cool to have someone sit down at a snare drum and stike it all over the drum with tape on the snare for a more hip hop fill to it and have 88 slightly different version of the snare....I think it would be. Relatively easy to do...I'm really into making my own break beats and I love liner drum patterens with tons of snare play but unless you have a kit that's mic'd up its hard to do

I can recommend some learning materials if you're interested Brandon. I actually plan on having a whole series dedicated to this topic when I get a chance to put them together since it's something that more musically advanced members would likely be into. We probably have a few threads up at the moment but I want to make them more concise and more in the vein of my AudioSex Academy series. We also have some members that are excellent scripters but one of them is assisting me in a project right now and not too long ago they did a lot of work helping create a free instrument that was given away to the public so perhaps someone else would be a good fit to advise on this project. Do you have anything in mind for the kind of library you're looking to create or is it up in the air?

Please do! I'd love to hear anything!

I have a few projects saved which I started on a while back but the main one being a Synth, and another re-design/more professional version of Section B:

but the worst happened, with a HD failure, all data got deleted therefore all recorded samples and projects were deleted and I couldn't get them back. Silly me for not backing them up! I think this is why I had that break because I was so p*ssed off!

I had someone create a rough design of the new Section B follow up:

(Sliders and buttons were just for preview/placement)

The route I'd love to take is more sounds from the Rhythmic bank in Section B, examples: The rhythms in Heavyocity Evolve, AEON, HybridTwo Project Alpha/Bravo, you should get a picture :P

That'd be the sounds I would feel most comfortable doing, but I've always wanted to see ideas from a background like Hip-hop/Electronic Rhythms. As Dow said, fills for those electronic artist to use, not only drums but synths etc.. (Never really done it, that's why it would be a good experience)

Wow this is sounding like quite an interesting and intriguing project and all the products you've mentioned are on my list of favorites, really top shelf stuff. It would be great if the rhythmic sounds were very diverse including even what I call getting down to business Industrial sequencing that often can find a nice place in a film score as much as an Industrial or heavier genre track. Heavyocity is on that path with Damage and some of the others in their range of products. Then of course also bread and butter type stuff as well for EDM/Hip-Hop. etc. When I have a moment I will put together some resources for you and ask around if any of the guys could lend a helping hand.

That hard drive failure sucks and we had that happen to a member right as submissions were about to be over for the Audio Sexed album (pictured in my signature). We actually also have threads up that can help with recovery or a good backup strategy. I hope to start a series of threads on that as well as time allows that would be more concise rather than strewn about. It happens more often than we would imagine and it's good to be prepared when it does so I'll do my best to help in that regard.

I like your graphics they look good *yes*

My advice would be to focus on your samples firstly & decide upon your instrument groupings ect. Then concentrate on mapping them out correctly ect. The main reason being that the samples/groupings etc will to a certain degree dictate the nature of the script you need to put together. Then u can build your script around your samples to fit your own specific purposes.

Another good place to start would simply be after mapping your samples learn about how to create your resource container. This will be where your graphics/IR samples/Audio Samples/NKA presets ect for your presets in the data folder. It may sound simple but it is important that you learn the structure and what should be placed within it. Then it might be a good idea to learn about setting a basepath ect as a means of accessing your resources i.e telling Kontakt where to actually look for the data you wish to use. This by default would be the Kontakt factory folder. For your example ect working with specific Rythmical ideas/percussive ideas may involve the use of 'midi' files.

When Kontakt 5 was upgraded there was a huge upgrade in the general midi capabilities of Kontakt.

This would be especially usefull for example say for learning how to load a midi file/play it back & store a midi file or set an export area ect. All of these capabilities with working examples of the scripts are contained in the KSP reference manual which is a 'must' read if you are going to unlock the full potential of Kontakt itself. It may appear a little 'daunting' at first but it is something you have to do really.

I know your layout is just for demonstrative purposes but it is a good idea to try where possible to plan ahead. So it is a good idea to map out a layout for your graphics ect firstly as u have done. You can even get templates for photoshop ect specifically for this purpose.

When it comes to writing the script itself there are no specific rules in the way you 'write' it but is definitely a good idea to be ulta organized. For example you cab include instructions in your script. Kontakt basically will ignore anything written within {.....}. This may seem very basic but it can be ultra helpfull when your 'sifting' through 10,000 lines of code for a default value etc.

How you do things though is ultimately up to you & allthough there are certain restraints/things u must do within the script itself is the ability to 'see' around problems & work around them.

    In your example....

Try & think ahead like say in your example, as far your EQ is concerned you must firstly decide where it is going to go & what it is going to affect. This will to some degree dictate where u should place it. As EQ's cannot be used as send effects, It should be placed on the Group level or Instrument level. Also decide upon things such as instrument 'busses' & routings etc.

Which slot & what level u place it upon will affect the correponding numbering of slots ect that u need in your script.

You have basically sliders for your EQ that you need to point towards the engine parameters you wish to affect. Keep in mind that whilst using custom graphics as your controls you must use the command declare_ui slider & also set the range for your sliders and can experience difficulty setting defaults & utilizing the full range of the control. Keep in mind that several 'Knobs' in Kontakt are exponential in function etc

As you have three bands a 3 Band EQ would be a obvious choice.

However the problem you may have with a setup such as the one you have is that in a basic script you are going to be say affecting one parameter. So in a basic 3 band EQ setup you can for each band affect Frequency, Bandw, & Gain. That means a total of nine controls.

So in a setup such as yours you will be affecting say the Gain of each band without having performance view controls to affect the Q or Frequency.

Therefore you are basically limiting the concept of the EQ itself by only being able to affect the parameters at fixed frequencies i.e Low, Middle & High etc.

If this is your intention then that is fine & it can work well but it would be more practical to be able to directly affect all the controls from performance view.

A more complex script can bypass this problem.

Another thing is your setup to consider is managing your 'space'. Therefore you must learn how to either utilse layers or use other methods in order that you can fully use the space available in performance view. There are different ways u can do this.

Your power button should be directed towards the engine parameter you wish to bypass or activate. You should firstly decide on the default status you need and that will affect whether you want to use 'the button' to bypass the control or activate it.

The script possibilities are endless & can range from ulta complex to simple but very functional. That part is up to you.

All the relevant engine commands ect are explained in detail in the KSP Reference manual & that is a great place to start with some basic commands etc

Good luck with your project it looks interesting

I've been very busy with issues related to hardware so needed to get some cash and all sorted now! I just have a little project of sleeving my PSU cables and then I'll be back more often on this little project of mine, but I am interested in whoever would like to join this little project mainly in Sound Design.

If you are interested, please give me an email at: [email protected]

Not much information has been released but I am willing to share information over email.

If you are interested in making patches for the free library with me, it would be recommended to send over some sounds. I will upload some sounds as a source to show you what patches I've currently worked on in the past for this library.

PS. I'm not Graphic Designer, so if you have anyone in mind (that doesn't charge 5,000,000,000,000 GBP for an UI) I'll be happy to see their work. ;)
