I think the heart of every owner of a VRM Box stopped when we received an email from Focusrite saying that our precious little thingy would stop giving us oh-so-lovely emulation, because of kernel DSP incompatibility. Having seen this, I went to try mine and, to my surprise, it was working.

So what the heck was happening? It is working, but did it lose accuracy? So, I did the obvious thing: freakout and download a copy of mavericks. Then came to my senses and sent them an email. Here is their response:

"In our testing we saw that the VRM box would not work due to the way that the device works on OSX. However, we have had a couple of reports that it seems to be working for some people. If the device is working there should be no loss in quality. We will continue investigating the reports to see what we can come up with. It could possibly be something has changed between the beta version of OSX that we did our testing on to the full release version.

    Best Regards, --
Will Kent // Focusrite Technical Support"

So I guess we will be able to use it for some time. Good news it seems :D

    Peace!

No, Apple just don't care about pros anymore, in general.
The time when Apple was caring about being exposed alongside professionals is gone forever.
Now they want to sell computers like their smartphones : to everyone, but without the "special" thing that made them an amazing tool for pros.
A free update every year. And more cloud, more store, more connectivity...less pro and more mainstream.

I just wrote a post on it in the Mac/hackintosh section. And things are going to be worse every year.
When Steinberg, Ableton and Avid (and more) say : don't update now ! wait !, you already know there is something wrong...

You will find Mavericks, Mountaint Lion...even Leopard on torrent, even if Apple don't provide it anymore
For now, until Apple totally kills pros, you can stick with Mavericks and pray third party devs fix the bugs on drivers , plugins and softwares.

If you don't rush on last OS upgrade every year, there is no problem.

You talk as if something is wrong with windows thesedays.. :dunno:

With the right hardware it's a perfectly stable OS for Pro work IMO. :grooves:
