Hi, I need to match a pattern in 4/4 with other pattern in 3/4. Each first beat of each bar must be played at the same time, a sort of polymetric Rhythm (no percussion, melodic stuff). I'm using Finale 2014 but I can't find the way to do it. So, I'm asking for help.
    Thank you.

i think the easiest solution is keeping the 4/4 time signature and write the 3/4 patterns as triplets

It's not only the easiest, it's the only correct way to do it.

Ok, The pattern consists in 18 notes per bar with no silence. I think 9/8 is the best solution, because each pulse is a dotted quarter, therefore three eighths per pulse and then six 16ths per pulse. 6 x 3=18 notes. But, I still can't macht the bars of the score in order to achieve that each first beat of each pattern sounds at the same time.

    So you ditched the 4/4?

i m not a finale expert,i use sibelius, but if they work the same,i think u have to write a 2/4 triplet,i meana group of three notes with the value of two quartes each, which, without the triplet indication would cover 6/4,but since u write the triplet indication,it covers 4/4,that is the whole measure.if u prefer instead of a 2/4 triplet u can opt for a 6/4 sixplet,or,it finale allows it,create 18/16 tuplet, probably this latter is the fastest if u only have to match the initial beat

  9. 2 different speeds, 3 beats and 4 beats in the same period of time. Seems as if you need to record them separately then merge them afterwards.

I don't understand quite well "ditched" but if it means "get rid of", well no. One instrument performs in 4/4 while other instrument performs in (now I think it's better) 9/8 at the same tempo. But, If I solve this issue, I already have so solve how to write this in the Notation software, because the change of the time signature needs to be applied to one staff only.

    9/8 wont work.
If I got you correctly, you want 6:4 for both part.
    4/4part : 1234 12 | 34 1234 | %
    3/4part : 123 123 | 123 123 | %

funny enough I'm mixing a trance song with that kind of pattern right now.

You should listen integral serial music...
Even with a shitty daw in Dos anyone can do everything...

Well, this stuff is a kind of Terry Riley or Philip Glass stuff (they would laugh till death if they knew what I'm saying).
And yes, I know it can be done editing notes in a DAW, but at least in Sonar it doesn't look like it should be in Notation view.
That's why I tried to do it in Finale and I failed.
Thank you, guys, for your suggestions.
