Im looking into possibly buying SOnar!

i have read great things about it and it sounds like it has great features.

    Advice,

Whats audio time streching like? I like how you pull an audio break into Protools and it will
    instantly warp in time etc

Can Sonar do the same or similar... Plus you can stretch audio just by dragging out a part or shrinking it.

I do currently use Protools 8 but i'm getting sick of their over priced updgrades and half of the time software that dosent
    work consistantly.

What is the audio sound / sound engine like?

    Whats the current flagship version??

    Midi etc

    Support for 3rd party plugs??

Why not just download it and see for your self. It can do all of the things but you may not like it. Try before you buy.

Seems like we know who is really dumb now.

@converted: Just ignore it. This board is full of highly intelligent posters.
There are a few vids on YT, that might show what you're looking for:

    X1 Producer is the flagship.

If you want to mess with the full version here is what you need

    Cakewalk.Sonar.X1.Producer.ESD-AiRISO - Installer,Documentation, Update x1a and some content
    Cakewalk.Sonar.X1.Producer.Addons.ESD-AiRISO - Dimension 1.5 pro + extra sound packs, BeatScape 1.2

    Cakewalk.SONAR.X1.Producer.X1b.Update.x86.x64-ASSiGN
    Cakewalk.SONAR.X1.Producer.X1c.x86.x64.Update-ASSiGN

And maybe a Tutorial or two if needed

    Groove3.Sonar.x1.Explained.TUTORIAL-AudioP2P
    Groove3.Sonar.X1.Tips.And.Tricks.TUTORIAL-AUDiOL3GiON

Now as far as Features go. It's a full fledged D.A.W and can do anything the other DAWs can , maybe even more but like all DAWs it has it's own way. I used Sonar for years and never had a Problem doing anything I needed to get done. Now if only they had not messed up the GUI with version X1 I would still be using it, but that is a personal dislike. You might love it. I know plenty that do.

You're right, X1 is a bit disturbing at first use, I had to hang on not to uninstall it.
Just like you, previous versions were more "intuitive" to me but once you know how to do all your favorite and basic things on X1, I think it's better, including the sound quality.

It frustrates a lot and takes time to relearn everything but many new big and small features, FX chains saving is so "comfortable" for example, make it a whole improvement.
Actually, being some autodidact guy like most of DAW users I guess, the hardest thing to me was to do with quantization rules which take more place from now on.
    :grooves:

Also, I haven't significantly used Audio Snap 2.0 a lot yet as I'm used to record 2 or 3 takes to melt best parts into one but, like we can see on videos, this new version seems to be great as well.

    Have a good day all.

The Production Suite is the same X1 Producer (the DAW itself) + a few plug-ins (Z3TA+ 2 and some less useful things).

Cakewalk.Sonar.X1.Producer Edition includes all the plugs including Z3TA+2. the only two plugs that would need to be updated are TruePiano's and Rapture le. Cakewalk locked down TruePiano so it only works with X1 but all other plugs will work in other Daws.

yeah and also the version in X1 is not "complete"...the real true piano offers more option...this one is more like a LE version of true piano
