I played my guitar through the instrument input on my interface and I was amazed how much better it sounded compared ton Amplitube/Guitar Rig ect. The S-Gear amps are a very well kept little secret

 

Pretty good for that AC/DC sound one of the best i tried for that sound
Other sounds like real heavy metal is not what this amp sim is about

i hate s-gear cause its not cracked so i cant say how awesome it is.

 

It's too bad the "scene" seems to be unaware of this app, or haven't offered it for some other reason. Hopefully, it will be available sometime in the near future.

As far as I know, it has some sort of exotic copy protection mechanism that is unlikely to be cracked...It writes its license right into your MBR partition, or something like that.

Anyway, yes. It is undisputed the best guitar amp sim out there IF you're a guitarist looking forward to experience the same feel of a real rig. It just feels very good to play through it...It feels natural, dynamic, organic...

If you're just an audio engineer, in other words, if you're just going to tweak what someone else recorded, then other amp sims offer a wider range of tone shaping capabilities, like Guitar Rig...People can talk whatever they want about Guitar Rig, but it just cuts through the mix better than most competitors.

The good news is that, if you want to experience something that sounds and feels very close to S-Gear, download Mercuriall JCM800 Hot Preamp and Mercuriall Cab. They're both Free...This combo is the real deal. Try some LePou's and Ignite's amps before Mercuriall Cab as well. You're not going to regret it.

The Mercuriall site is impossible to finish any download from and I can't find any mac mirrors for them.

 

Yes...Their website is slow as hell.

However, gladly someone uploaded Mercuriall Cab's IRs (about 150Mb) to AudioZ, so you'll have to download just the DLLs from their website...They are small DLL files, so you'll be able to download them even if it's slow.

PS: Try the other amps, like the regular JCM800 and the Harlequin as well. They're both great, although my favorite is the JCM800 Hot Preamp.
PPS: Maybe someone could download all the DLLs from the original website, plus the IR's downloaded from AudioZ and make a proper release pack on AudioZ. This is great stuff and everybody should be able to try it.

 

I'm not sure that Windows OS would let any software write the the MBR?

 

Well, I'm not a programmer, so I don't really know the details.

All I know is that someone told me or I've read it somewhere that S-Gear writes some data directly in the HD's boot sector.

I'm not sure if this info is accurate, though...But if it wasn't cracked yet, it must have some solid copy protection protocol.

 

I'm only asking because I've just been digging around a corrupted MBR with a Hex editor trying to fix the thing, and I thought maybe I can search around for some other stuff too
