I'm thinking of doing a trade for Halion Sonic 2 and was wondering if it were possible to trade the license but somehow keep the program on the usb elicenser. Possible?

Have your cake and eat it too?
    Nope.

You can sell/trade it, but it requires de-authorization from the usb dongle before the other person can use it.

I don't see why you couldn't trade it without the company knowing. As long as you knew login info why wouldn't you be able to authorize on another computer under the false identity of the other user? I would just make sure said user comes over and make sure it is authorized before you trade. But I am no advanced user and have never used usb dongle. But logically why wouldn't the same person be able to authorize it on another computer?

I think in order for the transfer I have to have the usb connected so they verify I'm the actual user, then I push the de register button then it removes from dongle for another user. Or do i simply remove the registry without connnecting to usb, that would make it easy to transfer then keeping it so im not sure :dunno: But then again like tater one said what if I want to add to another usb, wouldn't I just have to register using the code I have. We'll see, will check out the steinberg site and see what up..

lol what do you aspect ! you cant sell or trade any Steinberg stuff and keeping the software that it would work for you ! do you think steinberg are so dumb ?

you can only buy a new USB e-licenser and transfere the license from your e-licenser to the new one !

after that you can sell/trade your Halion Sonic 2 with the new USB e-licenser and the Halion Sonic 2 license !

Yeah, that sounds about right Tin Tin. Looks like I'll have to grab another usb elicenser if I want to keep halionsonic 2 but transfer it *yes* Will make sure before I do though if this method will work.

you can keep the software but you canĀ“t use it anymore without USB e-licenser and an activation on it , how hard is it to understand ?

    huh?

That's why i said to get another usb then transfer the license there too. Then deactivate it on the new one and still have the license on the old one. That's what you suggested right? :dunno:

Guys, dongles are not usb sticks. Whole different beast, with both software and hardware protections on copying of data onto them.
Also, there's usually a dongle ID unique for every key, that is used in the license decryption process. Or executable code decryption process in eLicenser case.
    Fuggedaboutit. *yes*

my bad, i said usb but meant the usb dongle that has the license on it. So your saying there is a specific code on the dongle that is tied to the license serial key that I got after purchasing. I got the serial then added it via elicenser. Once I did that did it send the dongle id to steinberg so if I try to add with a different dongle it won't accept that different id. Makes sense cause I remember people getting mad after loosing the dongle. So i assume they still have the serial but just can't activate it on another dongle.. wtf? smart for hacker but a jip for custormers no??

You remove the validation for the product from you're account, which removes the license from the dongle in the process.
Then you sell the product license, (the serial number) to someone else, who plugs in their dongle and adds the validation to their own account, now they can use it and you cannot.

It's not that hard to understand.
I don't see how it is a jip to customers, you bought it, used it, decided to sell it/trade it, and when you are done doing that you can no longer use the product but someone else can.Just like if it was a physical product....
You want your cake and eat it too, not gunna happen.

Seems you didn't understand my post :snuffy: It's a jip if they have the activation code but can't activate it on ANOTHER dongle after they lost the original. Once registered on the dongle it is locked to that dongle, loose the dongle, loose the license. Sounds like a jip to me. If it was a simple copy paste serial it wouldn't matter if your computer got stolen as long as you have the serial. That's what I'm trying to understand.

If however you can register on another dongle then my problem is solved now isn't it :bleh: Can you register your steinberg activation code on more than one dongle?

Steinberg have a procedure in place to replace lost/stolen/defective dongles, not sure what exactly the process is as i have never lost mine, but the licenser faq lays out that they WILL recover the licenses for you onto a new dongle.
Needless to say, it would blacklist the first dongle so there arent 2 versions of the same license floating around...

Read this page to understand it all.
