Lets clear up some of the major technical confusion surrounding SIMA. Because of its empirical modeling, it genuinely elevates itself above the current landscape of VSt clippers. Algorithmic clippers rely on rigid theoretical mathematics that break down under extreme pressure, whereas SIMA’s empirical modeling is data driven through constant physical hardware nulling. by capturing real world circuit nuances, component drift, and subtle time errors rather than just a digital ceiling, it handles extreme transient loads with organic musicality.

First, addressing the claim floating around that someone "nulled it down to -90dB with Standard Clip" ,, this is fundamentally flawed logic. If you are left with a -90dB delta, by definition, it is not nulling. That remaining discrepancy is exactly where SIMA’s complex non-linearities, proprietary dynamic bias processing, and specific component artifacts actually live.

Second, regarding the narrative that Gold Clip is somehow comparable or superior,,, in rigorous performance analysis, SIMA clearly demonstrates superior distortion management and raw loudness capabilities. After pushing this plugin to its absolute limits and confirming with top mastering engineers in the industry, it is clear that SIMA can be driven harder than any other limiter or clipper currently on the market, without exception. The developers didnt just capture the exact saturation and distortion characteristics of the Lavry mk3 AD converter; they digitally optimized it beyond the physical limitations of the hardware itself.

The Technical Edge: Why Nothing Else Comes Close
To truly understand why standard digital limiters and clippers fall apart where SIMA succeeds, you have to look under the hood at its advanced architecture:

    • Dynamic Bias Processing: Unlike static clippers that punish your low end and smear transients, SIMA features a program-dependent biasing control stage that monitors the (kick and bass) relationship in real time. It detects when dense low frequency material threatens to push the converter past its optimal operating range, applying targeted distortion reduction to that specific spectrum. This eliminates intermodulation distortion without ever sacrificing the natural transient punch envelope..

    • Topology-Preserving Low Shelf Bias: Instead of a generic low shelf filter, Sima uses a non standard implementation of a highly precise Topology Preserving Transform architecture. It functions as an automated pre-emphasis and post-emphasis network - pulling the low end back to tighten response and preserve critical headroom, or driving rich harmonic bloom into the saturation stage while maintaining absolute phase and linear transfer equilibrium.

    • Circuit Artifacts & SAR Mode: Standard plugins try to be "perfect" digital wires, resulting in sterile clipping. SIMA allows you to dial in modeled mathematical time errors (jitter), component drift, and even Differential Non-Linearity via its Successive Approximation Register (SAR) mode. This accurately replicates how real vintage converters fold under pressure,, turning low level tones into rich odd--order harmonic structures rather than harsh digital fizz.
When you are finalizing high-fidelity dynamic masters or managing complex multi-track routing configurations, SIMA’s robust controls give it an incredible fine manipulation of the audio source in a way standard digital tools simply cannot touch.

Lastly i urge everyone to support the dev's here and pick up the plugin. They priced it fairly and even offer a $12.50 per month payment plan option. These guys put their hearts and souls into this beast, and it shows..

If someone is going to bombard with this kind of marketing writing...

Audio marketing has reached the point where you almost need a PhD and a lie detector. Or just GPT. If something is wrong about this, well I won't be the first in the thread. I made it this far with this collection of marketing buzzwords " it genuinely elevates itself above the current landscape of VSt clippers." It looks like we are going to be levelling up with this new gamechanging plugin.

There are a few things in that post that are technically plausible, a lot that's unproven, and a fair amount that's marketing language dressed up as engineering.

Let's go through the biggest claims.
    "Empirical modeling" vs. "algorithmic clippers"
This is mostly a false dichotomy.

    Every plugin is an algorithm.

An "empirical model" just means the algorithm was derived from measurements instead of being hand-written from equations.

Neural Amp Model, Acustica, LiquidSonics, etc. all use measurement-based approaches. They're still algorithms.

    So saying:

    "algorithmic clippers break down..."

    doesn't really mean anything.

    "Constant physical hardware nulling"
    This sounds impressive.

In reality it probably means something like:

    1. Feed test signals into hardware.
    2. Measure output.
    3. Adjust model.
    4. Repeat.
    Lots of companies do this.

    Acustica.
    NAM.
    IK Multimedia.
    Softube.
    Universal Audio.

    Nothing revolutionary there.

"-90 dB proves it doesn't null"
    This is actually true.

If two signals null only to -90 dB, they are different.

    The problem is...

    The important question is:

    Can anyone hear that difference?

-90 dB RMS is extremely tiny.

Whether it's audible depends entirely on:

    • what the residual contains
    • how loud the material is
    • whether you're clipping 0.5 dB or 8 dB
People love to weaponize null tests.

    A perfect null proves identical.

    An imperfect null proves different.

    It does not prove better.

    "Dynamic Bias Processing"
    This could absolutely exist.

    A clipper can:

    • detect bass energy
    • change threshold
    • change saturation curve
    • use attack/release
    • oversample adaptively
None of that violates DSP physics.

    Whether this implementation is unique...

    No evidence provided.

    "Monitors kick and bass relationship"
This is where my eyebrow goes up.

    How?

    Does it perform source separation?

    Does it identify kicks?

    Does it analyze transient envelopes?

Or is it simply reacting to LF energy?

    Those are very different things.

    Marketing loves to anthropomorphize DSP.

    "Topology Preserving Transform"
    This one made me laugh.

Topology Preserving Transform (TPT) is a real thing.

    It's used by companies like:

    • Cytomic
    • U-he
    • Arturia
It is an excellent method for discretizing analog filters.

    But...

TPT has nothing magical to do with clipping.

    Saying:

    "Topology Preserving Low Shelf Bias"

    doesn't automatically mean superior sound.

It means they probably used a TPT filter somewhere.

"Maintaining absolute phase and linear transfer equilibrium"
This sentence borders on word salad.

"Linear transfer equilibrium" isn't a standard DSP term.

    It sounds impressive.

I don't know what it actually means.

    "Models jitter"
    Possible.

    Audible?

    Questionable.

Modern converter jitter is measured in picoseconds.

Even old converters generally don't have audible jitter unless something is seriously wrong.

Modeling converter jitter is probably among the least important aspects of converter coloration.

    "Component drift"
    Sure.

Many analog models include slow coefficient variation.

    Again...

    Real.

    Not unique.

    "Differential Non-Linearity"
    This is real ADC terminology.

    But...

Whether modeling DNL contributes anything audible in a clipping plugin is another question entirely.

"Digitally optimized beyond the physical limitations"
    This is marketing.

If you're no longer behaving like the hardware...

...you're no longer accurately modeling the hardware.

    That's not necessarily bad.

    It just isn't "the hardware."

"Can be driven harder than any limiter or clipper currently on the market"
    This is the biggest claim.

    Without exception?

    Including:

    • Gold Clip
    • StandardCLIP
    • Newfangled Saturate
    • DMG Limitless clipping
    • KClip
    • Sir Audio StandardCLIP
    • Kazrog True Iron into clipper chains
    • hardware clipping
    That's an extraordinary claim.

    Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

A Facebook testimonial from unnamed mastering engineers isn't evidence.

    "Confirmed by top mastering engineers"
This is probably my least favorite phrase in audio.

    Who?

    Bob Katz?

    Bob Ludwig?

    Randy Merrill?

    Mike Bozzi?

Or three guys with mastering in their Instagram bio?

Without names, it's impossible to evaluate.

What I'd actually want to see
Instead of paragraphs like this, show me:

    • THD vs level
    • IMD measurements
    • aliasing plots
    • oversampling behavior
    • frequency response
    • transient response
    • crest factor improvements
    • blind listening tests
    • CPU usage
    • latency
    That's engineering.

    Everything else is storytelling.

    My suspicion
    Could SIMA sound fantastic?

    Absolutely.

Could it become someone's favorite clipper?

    Absolutely.

Could it outperform Gold Clip or StandardCLIP on some material?

    Definitely.

But whenever I read phrases like:

    • "organic musicality"
    • "nothing else comes close"
    • "without exception"
    • "optimized beyond hardware"
    • "confirmed by industry engineers"
    my marketing detector starts flashing.

The funny thing is, the audio world has a long history of products making these kinds of claims. Then someone like Plugin Doctor, DeltaWave, or an independent engineer measures them, and it turns out they're excellent plugins—but not physics-defying miracles.

Given our past conversations, I think you'd approach this the right way: download the demo (or buy it if it's inexpensive), level-match it against Gold Clip, StandardCLIP, KClip 3, and DMG Limitless, then do blind A/B tests on the kind of techno, house, and DnB mixes you actually make. If it consistently lets you push another 0.5–1 dB while sounding better to your ears, that's a meaningful result regardless of how dramatic the marketing copy is.

I actually really liked your breakdown of everything, ill address each section in a bit since its alot to break apart.. However before coming to conclusions about it, just trial it. SIMA is different, and its not marketing hype, in the sense that it literally can be pushed harder objectively before breaking apart, theres simply no competition so far. Funny enough with your question on who are making these claims. Bob Kats uses sima now, im friends with him on facebook. so ya.. That alone says something.

Obviously its just a saying, not literal. For anyone who wants to dispute my claims, do two things first. Trial the plugin, and literally if you go to this link here https://hacienda.audio/pages/sima you can see Bob Kats Endorsement if you scroll down.

i know how these testimonials work. you send an mail, they say a few lines, after testing the plugin and you can quote them ... sometimes it doesnt mean anything ... just the name counts.

is this your plugin? you are so dedicated to get someone involved into trailing and discussion?

You can literally give people exact reasons to dispute their claims, and they still want to fight it with xyz logic. Im talking to him right now on facebook. your logic about the testimonials is true often, but not in this case. Again have you even tried the plugin? or just disputing it to dispute it?

Sounds like we have another "dev" schlepping their wares again. Exactly correct about who actually gives a shit :dunno: There are so many of these things floating around now that the redundancy is folding back on itself - not in a good way either. Gotta say tho... The whole "Bob Katz" signature line is comical - all because they are "facebook friends"...

Yes. The Sima white paper stats are a secondary curiosity compared to the misplaced 'z'. :p

Have you even used the plugin? lol. Look i completely get the skepticism, generally what you guys are all saying is true, but not in this case.Im not a dev, i could prove it but that would break my anonymity.

Tested the plugin, sounds like a perfectly ordinary clipper to me. Though at 160.95€, they are definitely targeting the people that believe that a "mastering grade" converter's soft-clipper is anything special. Trying to model non-linearities that are borderline below the dither is quite some fool's errand. Honestly they should stick to just selling T-Shirt, seems like a way better offering tbh :

I still prefer ToneBooster's modeller section in Barricade for various styles of clipping.

Ok, whatever. To answer, no I have no use for "clippers"... And as to the "dev" thing - if you're not the "dev" of this thing then you sound like you must have a vested interest in it somehow.

The read of the op makes it seem somewhat obvious that the entire thing is a shameless promo/defense of some who-the-hell-knows-what plugin that no one here has ever heard of, or even cares about. Doesn't matter much anyway since a large % of the ppl here shun legit plugins like the plague. In large part due to the purse strings and red tape employed by dev's these days to either directly or indirectly invade peoples privacy and/or their production platforms all for the sake of makin'-that-ca$hy-money. Couple that with the larger growing percentage of pure "AI"/slop code hitting the "market" now makes the user vs dev war an even greater divide.

I promise you havent used the plugin enough and are coming to that conclusion too fast. Read the manual, watch some videos, and you can see how you can control almost all aspects of the plugin in order to find the sweet spot. Have you done blind tests with other clippers? im guessing not. At first you might be underwhelmed but you have to dig into the manual etc. Are you guys literally going to force me to post images between me and bob k to show you hes not just making random claims? id rather not, and no offense i take Bobs word over yours.
