UVI just dropped Synth Anthology 5. Intro price is €89 (40% off €149) through July 20th.

    What it is
300 hardware synths in one instrument. Professionally designed patches, deep performance controls, easy interface, real hardware sound. Biggest jump the series has ever made.

    What's new in v5

100 new synths added, bringing the total to 300. Each one captured by hand the same way UVI always does it. Comes with 1,000+ new sound layers, 16,000+ new samples, and 300+ new presets.
    New engine too:

    • Two new analog-modeled filters (Ladder and VCF4023)
    • New Analog Drift control for dialing in vintage wobble
    • Polyphonic mode and per-step repeats in the sequencer
    • A bigger library of mode-specific sequencer presets

    Why it sounds real
UVI's angle is that hardware has stuff you can't fake... drift between voice circuits, the way a filter bites into a sound, that kind of thing. So every machine was programmed, auditioned, recorded, and edited by hand in their studios. Slow, deliberate work by people who know the hardware inside out.
    The engine

    • Dual-layer architecture: stack any two synths together, modulate the mix, each layer fully editable
    • Advanced modulation: two LFOs, two multi-step modulators with smoothing, velocity, modwheel, all through a parameter-based editor
    • Proximity explorer: analyzes the sound you've got loaded and suggests 8 similar/related sounds from the whole library, good for finding variations fast
    • Six macro knobs on the main page now, including the new Drift control
    • Native MPE support and deep modwheel integration for performance

    The machines
300 synths across these categories: Classic Analog, Modern Analog, Analog Modeling, FM & Formant, Wavetable & Digital, Vector Synthesis, Additive, PCM Synth, and Samplers. Covers everything from Moog, Roland, Korg, Sequential, Oberheim and Yamaha classics to newer stuff like Behringer, Arturia, Waldorf, and Teenage Engineering.
    Specs

    • 28.45 GB installed (FLAC, down from 55 GB in WAV)
    • 54,503 samples, 6,278 presets
    • 44.1 kHz sample rate (recorded at 88.2 kHz)
    • Runs in UVI Workstation 4.0.6+ or Falcon 26.0.4+
    • Needs a free iLok account (no dongle required), internet for activation
    • macOS 10.14 to macOS 26, Windows 10/11 (64-bit)
    • 21 GB disk space, 4 GB RAM, SSD or 7200rpm drive recommended
    • Formats: AU, AAX, VST, VST3, standalone
    • 3 activations per license

I really love this series, the bang for buck ratio is crazy high, especially if all you care are cool synth sounds without dealing with the complexities. I couldn't find a list of the new synths, if anyone find them please post it here.

new synths are in yellow on the page (around 100).
i'm actually thinking of getting this, the price is insane... but a bit discouraged because of having to activate it through ilok + having to run it on workstation (which is free if i recall correctly).
edit -- oooh it's only samples.. nevermind :bleh:

Though they have become more functional, the UVI synth user interfaces look horrible and uninspiring.
Strange synth outlines with no detail or identity, like photo negatives.
Who's idea was it to remove the visual identity of each piece of hardware?

    Because…it’s about…the sound?

This rant is not a grip towards you personally (Not towards you dude!)—but in general: this irks me with the whole “pretty GUI” thing in order to create BS that I can never understand.

Overpriced nonsense like The God Particle (which is literally compression + saturation) but these new gen swears by it, when you can get it done with MeldaProduction, McDSP or even stock.

UVI actually makes some quality stuff but “GUI mattering as much as the sound” is how people can never finish a project.

I just think that perspective is extremely dumb, and really for most creators, is a hinderance, and possibly an excuse to even complete anything.
    Okay rant over. :guru:

You forget that some of us have or actually still use the hardware counter-parts.
The original user-interfaces of hardware synths were designed to be accessible, intuitive and often inspiring.

With analogue synths, you cannot separate the visual from the auditory because that is how each sound is created - (by instinctively reaching for certain controls on each hardware device).

The original hardware designs, colours and layouts offer familiar visual aid for navigation and discreet functions (every analogue synth has this functional perspective).

Most other analogue, soft-synth re-creators (Arturia, Softube, Roland, Korg, GForce, etc.) consistently get this visual part right.

I know it's only a rompler, but maybe UVI should offer the option to switch between 'Generic GUI View' or 'Hardware View' - offering a more professional approach for musicians who are familiar with real synths?

By removing ALL of the familiar GUI components, UVI have effectively ruined the creative intent of the original machines.
We are now reduced to scrolling library presets of generic 'x-ray outlines' of synths? - Very amateurish and uninspiring to me.

Not to get too philosophical, but how many layers of visual/functional abstraction is acceptable before a synth no longer honours its source?

I think you're probably misunderstanding the extent of the scope of this series. There's a reason why they can add so many synths in one sweep, while it takes Arturia a whole year at minimum to get a couple. You won't get the things you want because it's not supposed to be this product. This is synth for the Kontakt crowd, the same people who use string libraries and the likes. The range of options will be limited. Though, the library is very capable and has a lot more than the synth outline screen you're talking about. Maybe just try it out? The previous version is available in the sister site.

You misunderstand - I've been using UVI Anthology since 2011 - (15 years now).

My observation/complaint is partly based on what is now missing from Synth Anthology V.3

In V.3, I can still edit the relative parameters on each of the unique synth interfaces, but that option has now been removed in V.4 & V.5.

I'm suggesting that those features should still be available, while adding the option to change to the more recent 'generic view'.

This way, both workflows are preserved for long-time users and new users alike.

These integrated features below are what is now missing from the current, V.5 'X-Ray' GUIs...

Not bad release from UVI, but like a lot of other romplers, are so limited to get deeper tweaking and aren't so close to the real things. Thanks anyway.

    Ahh, I understand.
I own some of the Korg Trition series, but that doesn't necessarily make me want to purchase the official emulation. Why wouldn't I just arm-record and track my performances in this sense, when the real thing works perfectly fine?:dunno:
My original point was about the overall distractions, and how GUI can also take up more CPU/RAM. I personally do welcome this more minimal design as a multi-synth.
As you pointed out, it is a rompler with samples. Im sure Omnisphere would have more integration with that. But that goes to show—It's still very, very impressive for the cost and the access to sounds it can produce, even if its limited in its capabilities, compared to the real synths. Even though it may not be exactly a 1:1 emulation of the various modulations, but with Falcon—Im pretty sure anyone can cut it close enough.

Falcon proves one point. That point is answered in the response to the question "How often do you use Falcon in sessions?
GUI doesn't matter if one don't use the instrument, does it?.

I use it rather frequently, if not in every project. People calling it a ROMpler means someone probably did not take the time to learn how to use it as anything but a preset machine. That perception comes from the fact that UVI's business has always revolved around selling sample libraries, and filling up a hard disk with expansions doesn't seem to have helped some people. It is very good for that, but you could just use UVI Workstation instead.

If you ignore all sampling features and look at Falcon 4 purely as a synthesizer, it's still a very deep product.
    Oscillator Types
Falcon 4 includes numerous synthesis engines, such as:

    • Virtual Analog
    • Wavetable
    • FM
    • Additive
    • Harmonic Resonance
    • Organ
    • Noise
    • Drum synthesis
    • Phase Distortion / Phase Shaper
    • Supersaw (SupraSaw)
    • Physical Modeling
      • Plucked String
      • Bowed String
    • Modal synthesis
    • Granular synthesis (using generated sources as well as samples)
    Filters
There are dozens of filter models, including:

    • Comb filters
    • Formant filters
    • Vowel filters
    • Notch filters
    • Dirty/saturation filters
    • Morphing filters
    • Multi-mode filters
    Modulation
Practically everything can modulate everything else.

    Sources include:

    • LFOs
    • Multi-stage envelopes

    • Panning
    • Binaural tools
    Routing
This is one of Falcon's biggest strengths.

    You can create:

    • Parallel synth layers
    • Serial synth chains
    • Split keyboards
    • Velocity layers
    • Round robin layers
    • Nested layers

I've spent close to £1000 on UVI libraries because I love them.

Many times I don't even need to power up a real analogue synth because UVI Anthology V.3 has me covered for many important sounds - it just lacks the quality analogue filters.

The OB Legacy & PX10 has the analogue thickness that algorithm emulations struggle to deliver + the CPU requirements are minimal due to the rompler nature of the sound sources.

V.3 inside of Falcon is a little fiddly at times, but many of us have acclimated to its workflow over years of use.

Skeuomorphic synth UXs are not necessary - the lack of immediate GUI control is the main problem here.

For anybody who used V.3 and has made the the switch to V.5; what do you think of the new workflow?

Going from all of this individual GUI control in V.3:

To this stripped-back minimalism in V.5...

You can no longer instantly adjust filters or envelopes with the new design, which feels like a giant 'basic mode' regression to me.

It would be like Arturia completely replacing their 'V Collection' (fully-featured analogue synth control) with Arturia 'Analog Lab' (basic preset scrolling).
BOTH approaches are needed, but definitely not interchangeable.

If Native Instruments: KONTAKT dared to do anything this brazen, there would be a civil war in these digital streets!

I get what you’re saying, Freakmaster, UVI used to be the kings of ”skeuomorphism”: all the libraries had gorgeous GUIs that closely mimic’d their hardware inspirations’ visuals. BUT I kind of like the new mono minimalist approach, too.

The new filter interests me. The problem with UVI in general is that they program their own sounds and THEN sample those, even on ROMplers. And a ton of it sounds the same. The same arps, clav keys, bells (always tons of bells), poly brass etc.

In the previous Synth Anthology versions there was also a huge problem with ALL presets having this maximizer/limiter on, and it made all sounds unuseable in a mix. Had to turn it off each time.

They sometimes have their Sonic Bundle on sale at 499. That’s insane value, because includes literally everything plus Falcon.
