Can you send a sample of the drums you want to convert to MIDI? I can give it a shot and we’ll see.

Just a quick question guys. So only EZDrummer has the bandmate feature, and only Superior Drummer the audio to midi feature?

Doesn't this plugin do the audio > MIDI trigger function?

    Apulsoft - apTrigga3 (real-time trigger)

The funniest thing about this is that the previous name was Gearslutz (not Gearslut).

    There are hardware options.

Alesis, Roland, Yamaha etc. have been producing MIDI drum brain boxes for decades.
    - multi-trigger / sensor inputs > MIDI.
Some of their drum sample boxes have trigger inputs to sound their built-in sample sets.
    eg. Alesis - Trigger IO. Alesis - D4 , DM5. Yamaha - DTXpress...
The above eg's are out of production but cheap used.

    Still current options available.

There is a stem separation model for just separating drums on MVSEP. It is labelled as:
DrumSep (4-6 stems: kick, snare, cymbals, toms, ride, hh, crash).

You do not have to care about stem output sound quality, since you want to create midi Note On data, timing, etc. You can clean the stems up even further before converting them to midi. You could use tools like Acon Digital Remix Drums or Fuse Audio Labs DrumsSSX, eq, transient shapers, and all the other plugins you have available to you. RX or Spectralayers can be used to get rid of artifacts that get converted into midi spam.

Experiment. None of this stuff is perfect in 1 step.

I think with Spectralayers pro and Cubase this could be done too.
Separate drums with SL Pro to individual tracks and use variaudio to convert midi notes, tweak notes for correct drum sound
Superior Drummer is the best bet for quick and easy of use results, but you may need to tweak a little for best results.

Cubase offers built-in tools to convert audio to MIDI, depending on your source material (monophonic melodies, drums, or chords). The three main methods are using VariAudio for vocals and solo instruments, Hitpoints for drums, or Chord Detection for harmonic analysis

    Drums to MIDI (Hitpoints)
Best for extracting kick/snare patterns from live drum recordings.
    1. Select your drum audio track.
    2. Open the Hitpoints section in the left Inspector menu and click Find Hitpoints to let Cubase detect the transients.
    3. Adjust the Threshold slider using the handle to capture only the primary drum hits.
    4. Click Create MIDI Track at the bottom of the Hitpoint panel.
    5. Select whether you want the MIDI to map to a standard General MIDI drum map or a specific note, then click OK.

Hitpoint detection in 2026, really? It is not polyphonic note detection, again; which is why hitpoint detection will turn a kick and snare played at the same time into 1 transient. It cannot get around the fact a human drummer usually has 2 hands and 2 feet which they use to play multiple notes at once. It's almost always polyphonic detection required.

Propellorheads put out a modern free version of Recycle, and this is why very few people find it remotely useful now when compared with just about every other option. Unless you are feeding a real sampler.

That´s why I suggested drum stem sep, before hitpoint detection. That´s pretty much all we got right now..
