You should have saved the settings externally *before* installing Update 3. It’s too late now!
You'll know for next time—make a note in your calendar to back up the User Tags!

I just rated new set of User presets and checked the prt_omn.index file in User tags, I don't see those presets in there. Which means Omnisphere does not store ratings for the User presets or it saves that somewhere else.

    Ratings

The Ratings feature in Omnisphere provides a familiar and convenient way of rating and organizing sounds in the library. You identify your favorites by applying Ratings to Multis, Patches, and Soundsources. You can also sort sounds in the Browser by Ratings, bringing your favorite sounds to the top of the Browser list.

You hit the nail on the head with your second guess: Omnisphere does store those ratings, it just doesn't save them inside the .index file you were looking at.

The prt_omn.index file (and similar index files) are primarily used for quick database mapping of categories, keywords, and tags to help the browser search efficiently. User ratings are treated a bit differently.

Here is where Omnisphere actually keeps track of your custom ratings and user preset data:

    1. The Directory Data File (The Main Culprit)
Omnisphere saves user-generated metadata—like your star ratings—inside a specific binary file within your Spectrasonics directory.

    • Windows: C:\ProgramData\Spectrasonics\STEAM\Omnisphere\Settings Library\User\User Tags\User.db (or a similar .db / .xml file in that folder).

    • Mac: Macintosh HD/Users/Shared/Spectrasonics/STEAM/Omnisphere/Settings Library/User/User Tags/User.db
⚠️ Note: Depending on your specific version of Omnisphere, this data might be bundled into a Directory Data file or a local SQLite database file (.db). Because it's binary or database-formatted, you won't be able to read it clearly in a standard text editor like you can with some index files.

    2. Embedded in the Preset File Itself
For User Presets (your custom .prt_omn files), Omnisphere often writes the rating and custom tags directly into the header of the preset file itself when you save or modify it.

How to force Omnisphere to update its files
If you are looking at the files because your ratings aren't showing up consistently, the internal database likely just needs a nudge to write the changes to the disk. Try this:

    1. Open the Omnisphere browser.

    2. Click the Refresh button (the circular arrow icon at the bottom left of the browser).

    3. This forces Omnisphere to scan the STEAM folder, update the .index files, and commit any pending user ratings to the actual database files.
Are you trying to back up your ratings, or are you moving your user presets to a new computer?
