    Hi,

If you have a FabFilter Pro C2 in your arsenal, try this:
    - Style: Vocal
    - Attack: as low as possible
    - Release: as high as possible
    - Auto Gain: On
Then play with the threshold to get between 6 and 10 dB of compression. Finally, adjust the attack and release as needed.
With these settings, you'll get more or less the same results as the famous Waves R-Vox.

Another trick I like to do to help me more easily place a lead vocal in a mix is to use an expander equipped with an external sidechain.
    Create two aux tracks.
Send everything in the mix except the lead vocal (drums, bass, guitars, keyboards, effects, etc.) to the first aux, and mute the master send of the latter.
Send your lead vocals to the second aux where you've placed the expander.
Default setting for the expander I use, which works almost all the time:
    - Threshold: 0
    - Ratio: 1.5
    - Attack: 1 ms
    - Release: 30 ms
Send the contents of the first aux into the expander's sidechain.
Raise the fader of the second aux as desired: the lead vocal "follow" the dynamics of whatever's playing behind them, so to speak, and will stay in front.
You can also fine-tune the setup by placing an EQ on the first aux to make the expander work in the frequency areas important to the vocals. For example, a boost in the upper mids between 2K and 3K can help.

    Happy vocals mixing !

I know some of you are good producers, so if you could upload a complete Vocals Template with the sequence order and plugin settings on each track (where possible) that opens in Logic Pro 10.7.9, I’d really appreciate being able to study the list and the strategic layout of each plugin in the chains.
A four tracks (or more if you prefer and are willing) would be enough: Lead Vocal, Double, Backing Vocals 1 and Backing Vocals 2.

Sure, I understand that every voice is different, but this way - even if it's just a general setup - I'll be able to study how and why those plugins are in that position and at those settings. I'll give you a credit if my next hit record makes it into the charts.. :bleh:
Many thanks for upload it over (or sending it me privately as well, if you'd prefer). :mates:

There are as many opinions about vocal chains as there are producers and engineers. Anyhow, here's my take on it:

    1. Quiet Art Waverider TG - This does most of my vocal automation on the spot so compressors work less hard. Then I can tweak the automation to taste.
    2. Maxim or STL control Hub limiter - To kill any agressive peaks before the main compression. In aggressive music, this gives me the beef of the vocal track.
    3. Pro Tools Stock EQ - Any EQ can actually work here. I can boost or cut deep (6 or more decibels up and down) or correct things like muddiness or give the track air, but I barely use more than 2 bands. I want to keep the vocal character as the recording intended.
    4. Soundtoys Echoboy Jr. - Some delay; settings and types are song dependent.
    5. Magic 7 Reverb - Beautifully sounding reverb
    6. Massey L2007 limiter - No settings changed. It's just the last safeguard before output.
Alternatively, I admit the guilty pleasure of using Waves CLA Vocals on any track that needs a quick bit of ear candy and forget about any chain for mixes on the fly (sometimes even for paid mixes). BTW, I don't have a template. I prefer to audition and add stuff as I go. Not everything works the same way. I might also just use Control Hub and replace everything in this chain.

    That's my 2 cents.

Why? You think you're going to lose out on work because you said what you use on a random forum? There are a thousand different ways to produce a good vocal, I doubt you've got some magic plugin that nobody's ever heard of or used before .
