    Hello all.

I have a small problem that I am sure one of you will be able to solve for me...

I have a laptop with the ASIO4All driver, I use it with EZDrummer 2 to play my drums and the audio come out of headphones, as set in the Asio settings.

Then I have some drum tutorial videos in MP4 format, that I would like to play while the drums are playing.

    And this is what happens:

The drum sounds come out of the headphones, as expected, but the video plays out of the laptop speakers, and I would like that audio to also play through the heapdhones.

The laptop is a Windows 7 Professional machine. I have tried Windows Media Player and VLC Player and I have played with some of the audio settings, but no luck. They give an option for headphones, but since this one has been taken by EZDrummer 2 they just mute the video sound.

I read somewhere once (but I can't remember where) that it is possible to run both devices (EZD2 and videos) through Asio, but I can't figure out how.

    Could someone help me please?

Thanks in advance, and thanks for checking.

WASAPI is I believe what you are searching for, this will let you share your soundcard output with more than one software. There is software out there that can also override asio from hogging the soundcard, but I find the wasapi driver works the best

    Thanks Sir!

So WASAPI replaces Asio4All? I'll look into this right now. Thanks again!

Oh, and... where do I get it from please? Is it from here?

I want to make sure I get the real thing.

    Thanks again!

that should do it, wasapi was one of the drivers created for Microsoft windows Vista but also works well with win7

Hey mate. Ok, so I had to install foobar2000 to be able to install the WASAPI component, and then... what? I can't find it listed anywhere or as a sound driver option. Am I missing something or doing something wrong? Sorry to bug you, mate. And thanks again.

that is not how asio works, using ez drummer and a video player in a daw is the best option I think

Hi Kwissbeats. Thanks for that. Yeah it is an alternativem but I am hoping for something a bit simpler and quicker, without having to load a video on a DAW every time.

I was thinking that I may not have this problem, in the near future as I'll be using the driver from the Focusrite Scarlett 2i4, which plays anything simultaneously with its ASIO driver. This will only happen when I can have all devices (MIDI controller, e-drums + any software) in the same room.

But... In the meantime, I just found this. Has anyone tried it? It's the SteinbergĀ® ASIO Multi-Client Wrapper, which allows more than one program running ASIO at once.

    Thanks again.

Watchin this thread hard. I have mad issues with Asio4all. It works but since I updated the drivers for my soundcard and updated Asio4all I have to reset it almost everytime I open a daw as my sound card will be in red and wont work.
Strangely if I switch to like low latency asio driver then close out the daw and open it back up and pick asio4all again it works just fine, but next time I open the daw again it's same problem all over again.
That and it takes priority over my sound anywhere else. And I'm kind of looking for a solution to record video tutorials using asio4all or some sort of low latency audio driver.I've tried the virtual audio cable thing and I can't get it to work quite right.
May have to see what's uppie with Wasapi!

Keep in mind that in a DAW like Studio One for example there is a setting called Exclusive that must be disabled in order to allow other applications audio access while it's open or in your card setup.

    Good point Catalyst, thanks!

One thing I didn't emphasize: I get the ASIO audio coming out of the headphones and the video audio coming out of the built-in speakers. So there is audio coming out for video, just not on the headphones and this is what I want to fix.

On the big computer I have a Focusrite Scarlett 2i4, and its driver allows a million things to come out of the headphones or speakers (or both if I want). I am wondering if there is an option for this on AIOS4All on the laptop. I thought it would be as easy as telling VLC Player to use ASIO as an audio interface, but there is no such option. I can put both EZD2 and the video to come out of the built-in sound card, but the latency is horrible.

    Damn...

you just need to change the audio devices within both ezdrummer (stand alone) and vlc (make sure you have a newish version of vlc, at least 2.1.x )

I don't have ezdrummer installed but I do have ezkeys, so it should be the same

open vlc and go to tools / preferences / Audio / output module and select "Windows multimedia device output"

now open ezdrummer / settings / audio midi setup and select device "mme"
you can also try the other devices in the list, may improve latency

you should now be able to play a video and use ezdrummer at the same time and have the sound of both coming through the same speakers or headphones

I have just done the above and is working fine on my pc win7 64bit but should also work with 32bit version as well. And I am only using the internal sound chip on the motherboard

also tested working with FL Studio, Ableton Live and S1 (make sure you untick "exclusive mode" in the windows audio device control panel for S1)

Ok. I've tried WASAPI. It works, but the latency of the e-drums is super poor, about almost a second late :( Maybe it's just my laptop's performance, but as far as I can tell it's pretty strong.

I'll check out this JACK2 as well. Otherwise I'll just stick to WASAPI for now.

With ASIO, I'm so close, I just need the video audio to come out of the headphones.

Thanks to everyone so far. I'm not giving up!

Maybe you must disable the speakers in Win7 audio settings and set headphones as standard ? Just a thought.

Thanks mate. That was the first thing I tried. It doesn't let me set the headphones as standard. Not sure why...

[EDIT] Video comes out of the headphones, but as soon as I start EZD2 they switch to the speakers.

I dont know if you use the realtek hd driver? as there is in the advanced options the possibility to switch the speakers channel mute when pluged in HP.

Or is that not important if ASIO4ALL / WASAPI use? no idea ^^ good luck

Thanks Mechanix. Yep, I tried that. They work well until EZD2 kicks in. Then they just jump to the speakers.

I Installed JACK2 and, although promising, I can't get JACK to display as an audio device after setup.

well this way it defeats the point of using asio, cause the main advantage of asio is exclusive use of the soundcard for short latency's
only expensive sound cards can have double streams because this is supported in the hardware..!!
if you do get this to work, most advantages of using asio are gone and you are back at square one where the primary sound driver will be as good as the asio driver
