    Hey everyone,

I’m trying to recreate this weird rubbery/quack bass sound. It has a bouncy “duck/fart”

    how to make that sound???

    Does anyone know:
    • what this style of bass is called?
    • if it’s synth-based or resampled?
I uploaded the sound example below.

    Thanks

My guess is either a baritone saxophone or maybe a tenor playing very low notes, sampled and with some processing.

Very well could be, but sounds more like a synth to me. Used to make these sort of basses at the beginning of EDM, back in the sylenth and OG Massive modern talking days lol. @larsp there was a subgenre of Big Room House called Melbourne Bounce that was big for a while, a lot of those basses sound very close to this. Here is a tutorial i quickly found. There may be better ones out there, but this should get you in the ballpark. From there its just tweaking the synth to taste / to fit your track, and processing, which Clone is def right about that. Sampled Sax or Programmed synth either way your going to want some widener, preferably multiband so your only affecting the upper mid, some saturation, SC compression, etc. I would experiment with some subtle vowel /formant filter of sorts, bonus points if you have a quick envelope mapped to the frequency, so that each note swiftly sweeps the formants, giving that classic yaaaooooow. I mean subtle for that one. just a touch, so that it adds movement, weirdness and depth without being blatantly obvious or taking away from the impact of the bass.

It's more of a goose honk than a duck quak. Big difference, but both are fowl.
