would reason get vst support, nobody would care about RE. but that way people are forced to invest money for new expansions.
nevermind! you like reason and i dont. would like to see subtractor and malström as vst.

If you like routing, there are other DAWs like Reaper which offer flexible routing options, albeit with a more utilitarian UI. Oh, and loads of other features like VST support.

    this is my current DAW

Ableton as host (with its session view, and creating arrangement here), FL as VSTi with it's piano-roll and Reason with ReWire and with Max 4 Live Reason 1.1 devices, but I'd like to use Reason alone, so gogo :)

Propellerhead ditched the dongle last year. No longer necessary as of v7.

You love cables? Lucky you. I'd be more than happy if I could only do without them. Cables are a nightmare for me, and the ones in Reason don't look more organized than my "physical cables" *no*

A few years ago I was lucky enough to get a free Logic Pro Routing lesson from a sound engineer, and that was one of the most valuable things I have learned *ever*. In fact, it helped me getting friends with Logic and leave the Cubase camp for good.
I believe that most DAW users don't spend enough quality time to get to know their DAW's routing well enough although it can be so powerful and rewarding. (At least with Logic, Ableton, Reaper or Cubase. S1 was a bit limited in this regard)

    +1.
For pattern and step recording at least, I'd say nothing beats Ableton. Really usable, flexible and well thought out.
(I bet now someone will chime in mentioning FL Studio  )
