"dropped off the site" == dmca

Personally I could care less if all the 3rd party nebula stuff all dropped off the face yesterday. A great deal of it is redundant and not worth the drive/optical space to store/archive it. Some of it is ok while a lot of it is flotsam. The "nebula tech" isn't used by other devs because it is flawed and somewhat backward and obtuse to use in a lot of cases. Grab the best of it, leave the rest, and if it doesn't work shit-can it and move on. Nothing more to see here...

The whiners here complaining about warez ending the world on a warez talk forum while they fail to validate the reason why they are here in the first place, is rather comical. Warez have been around since the internet became available to the general public and not just for academics. They are here to stay and are never going away. Either get used to the idea or go away.

It isn't used by other devs because it's not open source, nor for sale. It's a proprietary tech that's unavailable to anyone outside of Acustica unless you bought their N.A.T. sampler years ago, or are an official 3rd party dev.

So, outside of the company that owns it, only very few individuals are still able to produce libraries. And not one of them is trying to get rich with that. I would equate this as indie musicians, doing their thing hoping for some people to support them. Just like most music, their stuff end up pirated. Those who like them will buy their libs. While some will try the lib because it's been shared and end up buying it. And some won't spend a dime either way.

Such is life. But you can't be mad at them either if they ask for support if you use their libs.

Most folks, other than the hardcore fanboi's, will tell you out of a hat that most 3rd party nebula stuff (even some of the acustica built stuff) is rather un-intuitive, clunky and somewhat of a pain to use. Some of it (third party) doesn't even work or gobbles up CPU like it hasn't eaten in a decade. To me, and this is just my opinion coming from actually using the stuff, Nebula lib's are constituted more like beta software compared to main stream audio processors. Yes, they do have their moments of audio superiority, but usually at the cost of much tinkering and twiddling on the part of the end user trying to achieve what could normally take way less time using more conventional means.

Personally, I believe the nebula "tech" was maybe cutting edge in it's day, but quickly became dated when the newer IR, NAM, and algo processors started hitting the market place. Even acustica has basically abandoned it and moved on. Don't get me wrong some of the better neb stuff I do hold on to simply because it makes sense sound wise to do so, and if the skins are proper and do a decent job of supplying the user with proper cohesive feedback on what is going on with the audio. This model does not fit a larger portion of the stuff released by "those few individuals" who are putting out 3rd party neb libs.

So yeah. It's a dual edged sword IMO when it comes to nebula libs. The few of them that are worth keeping are still more difficult to get to sound good compared to newer "tech" processors mainly due to the quirky, un-intuitive feel of nebula libs on the whole. As for paying $ for the stuff, if 3rd party neb lib's weren't available on sisite (for 0$) I would never consciously seek them out for purchase because IMO they just aren't worth the hassle. Plus, out all of them that have been released to the scene only about 2 maybe 3% of them IMO are worth keeping around.
