So I had installed the Canvas Audio bundle from sister site and found myself really enthusiastic about and reaching for 8k pretty often with invariably good and very pleasing results, and with it being on sale right now for a measly $8 AND zero latency and extremely low cpu impact, following through on try before buy/support the dev if you like it, was a no brainer.

So I did, but upon instantiation in Ableton Live 11, (Mac/Monterey/Intel) I got a "Signature Mismatch" pop up from the plug just prior to authorizing, and it remained AFTER authorizing it - and it WAS clearly authorized.

I looked through both Library/Application Support folder locations, documents, shared, applications, the usual spots for anything that looked suitable to delete or change, etc and attempt the authorization again
and hopefully be rid of the "Signature Mismatch" pop up - which, I should have been more clear - went along with the plugin not instantiating/working, and eventually I gave up and reinstalled the Canvas Audio Bundle again over the legit 8k, and it worked again just fine. I haven't had any issues I couldn't resolved mixing legit and not legit with any other developer before, somewhat and slightly excluding AIR to a very small degree.

It's not a giant big deal or anything, but I would sort of really like to fix this and use the legit one, and feel
like there's something likely pretty simple that I'm just being stupid about -

Anyone have any ideas for a fix off the top of your collective heads?

That usually points to a leftover plugin-signing or duplicate-file problem, not an authorization problem. On macOS, the most common fixes are to remove every copy of the plugin and its support files, clear Ableton’s plugin cache, then reinstall only the legit version from scratch.

    What to try
    1. Quit Live and uninstall all Canvas Audio 8K files you can find, including any AU/VST/VST3 copies in:
      • /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components

      • /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST

      • /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST3

      • ~/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/

      • any Canvas Audio folders in ~/Library/Application Support/, ~/Library/Preferences/, and ~/Documents/
    2. Reboot the Mac.

    3. In Ableton Live, rescan plugins after removing any cached database files if needed.

    4. Reinstall the legit 8K package only, then authorize once.

    5. If it still says “Signature Mismatch,” try running Live with Rosetta on Intel-era macOS setups that are still using older plugin components or wrappers.
    Why it happens
A “Signature Mismatch” message often appears when the host is seeing a plugin binary that does not match the expected signed package, or when an older/other copy of the same plugin is still being loaded from a different folder. That fits your symptom where the “unofficial” install worked, but the legit one triggered the warning until the bundle was replaced again.

    Best practical fix
The fastest clean fix is usually:

    • remove every copy of 8K,

    • delete any leftover Canvas Audio preferences/cache files,

    • reinstall the legitimate build,

    • then confirm Ableton is only scanning one copy of the plugin.
If you want, I can help you build a precise Mac folder-by-folder cleanup checklist for Ableton Live 11 on Monterey.

You should get Wideblue Sound Audio Plugin Uninstaller and Find Any File for use in this scenario with any plugin. The uninstaller removes all associated files, but a followup pass with FAF will find the rest. This turns into a 5 minute fix for any plugins you want to remove and cleanup.
