    Good evening,
I'm having a problem with Cubase 15 on a Windows 11 Pro system. Basically, when I import a MIDI file, I see all the tracks but I can't hear anything. I tried installing Halion, but to no avail.
    How can I fix this?
    Thanks

On import Cubase should, provided its still set as default, import a midi file with appropriate voices, to tracks mapped to a single instance of Halion Sonic (please note this is not Halion).

Check your "routing" panel on the track - what is it pointing to? For a MIDI track to make a sound you have to be pointing it at something that makes a sound (like a synth, standard midi, drum machine, etc...) otherwise it's just a file playing trying to trigger "nothing"...

But, it's like I'm missing sounds, if I open Sonic, where "All" is on the right there are no sounds...

Probably, with the old version 11, it was simpler; everything was already integrated. Isn't there a more practical and simple way to play MIDI files?
    Thanks

You dont have any instrument loaded in sonic in your pic. Load a preset from the drop down at the top in sonic, a whole interface of the synth or whatever preset you selected should load up at the center. It would be loaded at channel 1 by default. Then make sure your midi tracks are also routed to channel 1. I see your midi track is named epiano, so load an e piano preset i guess.
Youd be better off creating an instrument track with the sonic on it and copy pasting the midi data on that track, than creating 2 separate ones and dealing with routing.

Sounds like you don't have the Halion Sonic Library's added.... You need a copy of the Steinberg Library manager installed and all of the content for Halion sonic, if you have this content, put them all in one folder and double click on one. The Library manager will then automaticaly register them at that location, if you don't have the library files, use the Steinberg Download Manager (another bit of software) to download them....
The Halion Sonic sound palette is much greater and in much more detail than previous GM sound sets, and therefore the library is no longer packed with the executable, as its way to big.
There are many more ways to play a simple midi files than importing into Cubase, its a bit like using a hammer to crack an egg... But Halion Sonic is free and makes very fine midi player and more...

Thing is all it's gonna load up is the piano, regardless of what the MIDI track is. So you can either install Halion if you wish, but if you find that it still doesn't load your MIDI tracks properly, you can just go into preferences and switch from Halion multitimbral to MIDI Tracks:

@Semarus if the midi file contains a midi GM program change on each track (as per midi spec), Halion Sonic will use the appropriate GM sound, not just the piano. But yes that's the another way of doing it.

Your library files are missing, look its free, go to Steinberg, download the Steinberg Download Manager and let it install the files for you.
