MP3tag. Every other software for this tasks is BS. MP3tag is scriptable. You have no idea what you can do with it ... ))

 

Hello @brazytupac what @clone suggests to you is the best one. Oh, I see @BlackHawk says it too.
That's the one I use and it allows you to tag multiple formats, it is scriptable and you can connect to Discogs database to retrieve all data you need.

I used to use foobar2000 when I had to tag large batches of songs back in the day. It's pretty comfy once you set up the menus etc.

I use Musicbrainz Picard. It is opensource and you find nearly anything on it.
Even my youth metal band on jamendo is referenced in it lol.

AIMP is the best one as a audio player, TAG Metadata editor, audio converter and it is fast and free... Nothing comes close to it.

 

question, so I just tried mp3tag, i removed the title and artist info from a bunch of files, i just compared the file sizes before and after, but realized it changed (reduced) . Is this because the meta data adds to file size or does this mean some losses have occured?

 

Logically metadata should add to the value not to reduce it, for example if you add cover art etc. That is In my case with AIMP. For others I don't know, but to reduce file size that doesn't follows, which means it compress MP3 file even more... I don't have proper knowledge about exact matter, but just simple logic. EDIT: I've read post properly, in your case that should be okay.

Not sure why one would need scripting for a music file tagger The one I use is perfectly fine for editing tags in batch for as many file types as anyone could want. It will pull from online data sources as well but I rarely use that function. Eventually though there are individual parameters that cannot be "batched" because they are unique to the individual files (track#, track title, etc...) which still I don't see a need for scripting because it requires attention to the individual files anyway... By the time I wrote a script for that I could have had it done just by using the GUI.

 

If you want to tag existing material, I can't see what is easier than Picard.
If you talk about tagging your own songs, Picard isn't what you need.

 

mp3tag doesn't touch file audio data, only the metadata. So, if you've removed data from the metadata, that's why the overall file size is reduced.
