I am sucker for these kind of plug-ins, unfortunately it crashes Ableton Live 11 on Intel Mac immediately when loading the plug-in for me. Have to try if it works on my newer ARM Mac but anybody tried it yet? How does it sound?

 

Perhaps it will be a good idea to report the crash to the developers... No crash here from Windows 10 PC, Bitwig Studio 5.1.9 rig, plugin 1.0 (14-day demo).

the idea behind the plug-in is not wrong.

it is only i do not believe that you can model the 950´s or 1000´s specific DAC´s sound within a digital enviroment.

as someone who knows that emulating a filter and emulating the topology of a filter is not the same thing, i am becoming even more sceptic.

50 $ for 17 different plugins? One hardware rack costs like 1000 $.. and there is a reason it does..

 

I dont know shit about this plugin, but using that same reasoning the usual suspects emulation of the virus is shit because theirs is free and a virus is 1500 used, or whatever. Which clearly isnt the case.

 

as far as i am partially able to understand english, a topology is nothing which can be "modelled" or "emulated."

the topology of a filter is the entirity of its frequency response, phase response and parameter range.

the filter in the S-950 is an analog butterworth (or actually 6 of them in series), and you can also have a butterworth topology for a digital IIR filter.

but that does not mean they already sound the same. they only share the same math.

and it also does not mean the developer "modelled" his butterworth topology after the analog module. the math is always the same and you usually learn it from books, software examples or wikiwhatever.

there is also no automatism between strange marketing claims and the quality of someones work - so i might be wrong with having a low opinion about this thing before i even tested it.

Anybody tried it yet and can tell his / her opinion on how it sounds?

 

The VST is an FX insert effect in the effects chain. You need to load a VST instrument, and then you can control the EM-900's knobs to alter or manipulate the chosen base sound. I need to look into this more closely to see if it all makes sense.

They are definitely going for the Teenage Engineering look (not as successfully).

What even is this? Does it do anything what the RX950 filter and D16 Decimort 2 already don't?

 

Again stupid bitcrusher with "fancy" ui. Wanna oldschool sampler in vst form? Cyclone by sonic charge is literally 1 in 1 emulation of Yamaha tx16w with typhoon os. Proper 12 bit sampler and completely free! Even workflow identical to real hardware unit. Another "Lo-Fi" picks from me are probably zenology fx (close to sp 404 fx) and Vulf compressor by Goodhertz. Everything else are just bitcrushers....

 

Folks, this is an effect that you apply to an existing track, not an instrument:
It will produce no sound by itself and needs some input material in order to do its magic.
