    Hello!
I'm sorry if I'm not right here, but I hope, that somebody can help me. I'm tuning a marimba using Overtone Analyzer (spectrum analyzer). I can see the fundamental tone and the overtones as the program automaticly snaps the line to the peak in the spectrum:

But it looks like it's little above the mid-line of the peak. My question is: Is the fundamental frequency going through the right-most end of the peak (like above) or through the vertical middle of the peak (like this)?

    Thanks a lot!

Why not tune it by ear (semitones and cents) in a sampler along with another synth/audio track playing a tuned sine (or chord, or arp or whatever)? It's alot more rewarding/educational/quick/fun.

From what I see in the screenshots, I cannot imagine any more inexact way of tuning a marimba.
You can only rely on the software's hidden algorithms without knowing what really happens.
*If* you want to tune it this way (and not by ear plus sinewaves, as Baxter suggested), then please look for dedicated tuning software that sometimes has deeply zoomed spectral display so you can really see any change while tuning.

Personally I use Adobe Audition for this because it has a live spectrum display that is zoomable, and I can choose any fft points size depending on how precice (higher values) or how fast (lower values) I want the display to be updated.

That's a good idea! Since I have got quite good ears I can try it. But my ears get confused after some time, so I will see.

I have Adobe Audition, so I'm going to give it a try.

    Thank you :)

PS. Did you realy mean the Spectral frequency display? It's not so exact too. I would like to see something like this:
