What is the closest thing we have to an EMU Proteus plugin available? One that doesn’t need hardware and has all the factory patches? If the best we have is a sample library for something like Kontakt it’s fine, I was just wondering since we seem to have a lot of emulations or plugin equivalents for popular sound cards and modules used by game composers yet the Proteus doesn’t seem like it has a definite solution.

Ok, I’ll look into this, it does seem like my best option and it scratches that itch for early 2000s-10s plugins I have a lot too… just gotta hear it in action and see how well it works out

You're right. The Kontakt libraries don't sound like the actual unit, but the SoundFonts do.

imho if you have a good job.. buy the real hardware! its much better than all those emulations. it got 50 special filters. inbuilt effects

the real hardware is much more fun to use... if you got space in your studio

the digital sound factory is really good.. the older library is better than the new revision of the emu rack units. planet earth, vintage, x treme lead etc.. i used to use the digital sound factory for kontakt but bought proteus 2000 last year.. proteus VX is good but not that good..

 

i have seen this before.. i heard recently people writing on youtube they STILL BELIEVE a real acess virus sounds better than dsp emulation. thats a very strong belief

 

Note that DSF has two different Kontakt libraries: Proteus Pack and Proteus Rack. They include the same six modules, but differ greatly in size. "Pack" is not sold for Kontakt anymore. "Rack" is available as a bundle with older Proteus modules.

the first release from digital sound factory is the best of the proteus pack. i think they released it in 2011 and i been using it since.. but the new update removes the old kontakt interface and adds new interface wich isnt that good.. if i had a bit more money i would buy the planet earth module - its good for percussion in your songs.

 

In their tracks? It may. Unless you happen to have mapped like 40 realtime controls on your midi controller to the plugin to do all the automation with. That also makes Omnisphere more useful via the Virus hardware profile in it, so Omnisphere does not even sound as static either. Are they sending the audio out via spdif, or are they running the audio out through an analog mixer and a rack full of nice analog effects processing?

Those people are not making claims that they have to prove to you. If you want to claim a plugin emulator is "identical", it's up to you to show that. But alas, without the instrument being emulated, you're stuck writing stuff like this on the internet.

Now here we have another good round of this kind of talk about some E-MU synths/samplers. Surely the E-MU X3 software version sounds like an E6400, E4XT, etc, right? The software can load the same libraries and samples. The early Proteus as a Kontakt instrument should sound the same as the hardware right? The Z-plane filters were not present in the original Proteus modules, because it was not even introduced until the Morpheus. Later versions included it, albeit watered down. The UltraProteus is when the full zplane filter type was added as standard stock fx.
